    2006 Liberty Sport Overhaul

The weep hole in the water pump was 'plugged'. The auto shop where I bought the replacement water pump said it could either have been deliberate or clogged up, but said there was no sign of a leak from the weep hole (so if plugged it was a while ago, but if it was clogged it might possibly have...

Thank you, that's welcome feedback,:). I'm left unsure as to who I've been more manipulated by, the seller or the dealership, but I've learnt so much from the experience and seems I've gotten lucky, could've been worse. Before changing the brakes, rotors, calipers I think I'll get a second...

    2006 Liberty Sport Overhaul

Update Compression test complete All 6 results were between 145-152 PSI. At first I only loosened the sparkplugs and my first reading was 90 PSI in the red. I checked to see what could cause a bad reading (ever the optimist) and saw some comments advocating removal of all the spark plugs...

They look wide enough for sure. My short every day pliers did not have the reach for the bigger hoses, or the reservoir hose. I got by with a plumbers wrench but it was cumbersome.

The cooling fluid looked "good": still had strong color and not really dirty. It's possible it had already had a flush? Perhaps the dealership topped it up for me to drive home. I'll ask. White deposits: there ARE calcium type deposits speckled on the outer water pump. Possibly from the...

HOW TO: Find a How-To not listed here & Forum Guidelines

My apologies for not seeing/understanding what this thread was earlier. I have an 06 Jeep Liberty 3.7l 2WD Sport. Looked for how to change the radiator and water pump but had no luck and ended up documenting my experiences in a How To thread in case it was useful to another first timer. I...

    2006 Liberty Sport Overhaul

Update The old radiator and water pump showed no obvious signs of leaks or damage. I took them to my local parts store and asked them to take a look. An experienced guy came over and after examining both said he could see no tell tale signs of leakage (caveat that couldn't tell what would...

2006 Liberty Sport Radiator, Serpentine Belt, Waterpump, Thermostat, Hose Replacement

Step 11 Remove the radiator This is simple. It is not easy. It is fiddly, requires patience and attention to detail and clever maneuvering. If you find it impossible then you're stuck in an incorrect removal position: return to original position and pick another route! Nuts took 10-15mins...

2006 Liberty Sport Radiator, Serpentine Belt, Waterpump, Thermostat, Hose Replacement

We had a radiator and waterpump leak and while there are several awesome videos to help for other models, I could not find one for the 2006, and there were enough differences and hiccups for the first timer to warrant a detailed thread for the 2006. I'm writing while I still remember clearly...

    2006 Liberty Sport Overhaul

That was one of the useful videos I was able to find. The 2006 was different so unable to follow verbatim, but even so I was able to understand the generic process better after watching.

    2006 Liberty Sport Overhaul

We have just started the process of removing the radiator and waterpump. Lessons so far: Every youtube/how to thread assumes you know how to drain the coolant/where to find the drain/petcock *The draincock is super obvious after you've done it once. For any that haven't, standing at the front...

    2006 Liberty Sport Overhaul

It sounds like I've got the headgasket test and compression test mixed, it's quite possible we didn't talk about testing the engine to that extent given the list of repairs they'd just generated. My first question was ref the head gasket, which they quoted as a $2900 repair if required. It was...

    2006 Liberty Sport Overhaul

The dealer advised they couldn't do the compression test until the radiator and waterpump were fixed unfortunately, but that's good to know about renting the tools, I will check that out for sure. I don't mind putting the $500 into it for now and getting the compression test done thereafter...

    2006 Liberty Sport Overhaul

Agree, I had thought exactly this. I figure I can do the radiator and waterpump for $500 and check from there. And then I can at least hand it over to the next person- with full disclosure- to run or rebuild as they like. From what I understand replacing the engine (which is something I...

    2006 Jeep Liberty Sport

Thanks teeje, that's good to know. The Mopar radiator only has a 2yr warranty, which is interesting for a better quality product. I haven't seen any negative reviews though.
