    Killed my CRD. Worth fixing?

2006 Liberty CRD Limited (~294,500 kms) 103km/h (~65mph) on the highway and for whatever reason it jumped back to first gear (auto transmission). Shredded the timing belt, that's a certainty. My question is what else might be wrong (bent valves, transmission, etc) and is it worth fixing when...

    Rear end clunking

So I found a shop to take it to locally (where it broke down) cost me huge for a tow, the mechanic is good, and I'm happy, he showed me the problem. They stethoscoped everywhere until locating the problem was DEFINITELY in the rear diff and it wasnt just sound traveling along the axle from some...

    Rear end clunking

I didn't have the tools (jackstands, drain pans, etc) for removing an axle but along that same line, I did try 4fulltime during the 5.8kms that I did drive it. My thought was exactly that, if the rear went out, the front would pull it along. Nonetheless I was going there to spend the weekend...

    Rear end clunking

Bought it last week, used, private sale. I don't know of any manufacturers warranty that lasts up to my current kilometers of 147,000+, at least not in Canada, so I'm certainly out of luck there. I'm also hoping I didn't get someone else's lemon... don't think I did, but you can never be sure...

    Rear end clunking

Thank you for the suggestion. Anything is helpful... well anything that I can do with limited tools. Alas I took both rear brakes all apart and nothing is out of the ordinary. Guess its axle or diff after all. :-(

    Rear end clunking

I'm hoping it's a driveshaft, should be cheaper... unless I messed up the rear diff driving the last 5.8kms. My main issue is I don't know how to get it, from where it is now, to the only mechanic I trust (300kms away). I really don't want to take it to the dealership, which is 60kms away. I've...

    Rear end clunking

Just picked up an '06 CRD. Had my mechanic look it over, he drove it, safetied it, no problems. I've put about 1000kms on it so far, i go away for a weekend, and 5kms from the destination (300km drive) the rear end craps out over a small dip in the road. The rear end (diff or axle) is clunking...

    4Lo Lurch

I'll quote tjkj2002 but it goes for all you guys. Thanks... you still have the answers I need when I overlook the obvious. I totally overlooked the idea of turbo spool. Guess that's because I've never owned a turbo. Only driven a turbo once... WRX STi once for 15min, and I was more impressed...

    4Lo Lurch

No, just my '04 3.7L KJ! :-) Thought I'd try the CRD for sh*ts and giggles :-) Just busting yer balls for not reading my entire post :-) No harm meant :-) IF you were suggesting that the 3.7L KJ is NOT a "real 4WD", well you just made a lot of enemies here :-)

    4Lo Lurch

Took an '06 Liberty CRD out for a test drive yesterday. Tried all the transfer case modes. 2WD, Part Time, Full Time all worked as they should. 4Lo had a major issue. I got it into and out of 4lo with no difficulty but when in 4lo, it was extremely lurchy. I lightly pressed the accelerator and...

    Looking for something new

One I'm also looking into, problem is cost. I just don't think I can afford it. The guy that said I could go to the auction and buy under his name might allow me to rethink that option.

    Looking for something new

Does that mean the passenger foot area is smaller? One of the BIG differences I noticed n the late 03's and 04's (my gf's 04) is the 42RLE transmission, being smaller, allowed for more foot room on the front passenger side. I trade currencies for a living. Any amount of ESP would be helpful...

    Looking for something new

Late nineties.. too old. 4.0L would be too heavy on fuel $$, see above msgs for my weekly mileage driven. The best compromise is the liberty diesel with it's power and fuel economy. I'm going to look into it more seriously. Going to take one for a drive to see if the diesel "noise" is as quiet...

    Looking for something new

Nah, pickups are out of the question. I've got 2 Labrador retrievers that spend a good deal of time in my vehicle, Unless I'm getting into larger quad cabs they just won't do. And larger quad cabs (king cabs) are just gonna burn fuel and my $$. I'm not into putting my dogs in the bed of a pickup...

    Looking for something new

JK, TJ, YJ, CJ, or the likes, I won't buy one. I won't say "ever" but it'd have to be a cold day somewhere usually very hot before I'd buy one... and I'm not talking the Caribbean! I don't know why I have a strong opinion about that because heck if I wanted an affordable "true" off road...
