05 JEEP LIBERTY LIMITED EXHAUST SMELL BURNING OIL SMELL

so just got a liberty that has an evap code and strong exhaust smell after driving for a while. The engine bay smells like exhaust or burning thought it could be low on oil, but i changed the oil and it still reaks, thought it could be a valve cover gasket, but i cant see a leak there its possible i just cant see it but it doesnt look like theres one, i also smell exhaust by the gas tank opposite the exhaust which is weird thinking it could be the exhaust flange leak i'm not sure trying to see if anyones has solved a similiar problem.

check the pcv valve piping. It is brittle and splits easily - will not usually leave a drip like a leak, but will fail a smoke test and does let exhaust gas from the crankcase into the engine bay and you smell that burning odor.

start at the air cleaner and work your way back - each valve cover and the crossover tube in front of the throttle body.

I have an '03 and have a tiny leak from the Right rear valve cover up against the firewall. I replaced the valve cover a couple years ago and that seemed to take care of my issue.. however, I think it is every so slight coming back in the same area. It drips on the exhaust manifold and because it sits for weeks on end as this is not a primary vehicle.

Then it burns off when I drive it.. the smell is a bit annoying.. but the root cause is pretty minor in my case.
