Hopefully this is the right place for this post. I'm working on a 2006 KJ Sport, 3.7, Auto trans, manual shifter transfer case (not sure if they came any other way, but just in case...). Long story short, it sat for awhile before I acquired it from my brother-in-law's mother's estate, and the front wheel speed sensors are throwing codes and seem to have failed from sitting. No big deal, I ordered new ones and figured it would be an easy job, and would have been, except I seem to have some mystery sensors on my Jeep.

The ones I received are the correct ones for the application as far as I can find (O'R's, Autozone, etc. all show the same ones as I got), there's only one option from 2002 or 2003 through 2007. But the ones that I got are too long. They physically hit the tone ring 1/4" before they seat in the hub. But I can't find anything else for these. So am I missing something? It has newer hub/bearing assemblies and I'm thinking whoever made them did their own thing with the sensors? Am I stuck changing them again to get new sensors or has someone seen these stubby sensors before?

In case it's not clear, the sensor on the right in the pictures is the one I pulled out of this Jeep.

Thanks for any info.

You may have missed something in the package that looks like these. They are shims.

Seems I'd need a lot of them to make up 1/4", but there were none in the package for either side. I wonder if these are something I could get separately?

My guess would be that they gave you a sensor for a KK not a KJ.
Check the part number on the new one.
They are not interchangeable.

That is a KK sensor. I replaced one of mine earlier this summer.
I just looked up the sensor for a 2008, and the wheel end looks the same as the one I got, but the rest is different. To be clear, the ones I ordered look just like the ones I am finding for this Jeep from everyone. The sensor itself looks pretty much the same KJ and KK, but the cable and retainers, etc. look different, and the ones I ordered are identical to mine in every way except the part that bolts into the hub. But the ones everyone has for the KJ are the same as the ones I ordered, with the longer nose (the left one in the picture). That's why I'm starting to think these are oddball ones that came with the hub bearings that are in it.

For reference:

KK - https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/...uv-2008-jeep-liberty?q=abs+wheel+speed+sensor

KJ - https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/...00/v/a/18683/automotive-suv-2006-jeep-liberty

You can see they don't look all that different, and neither looks like the ones I pulled out of this vehicle. That isn't the one I got, but it is identical to the one I got, as is every one I've found for the Liberty so far.

I know, that's why I posted both. But if you look at the pictures, neither of them are the same as what I took out of mine. The KK ones have nothing in common, the KJ ones are exactly the same, except the sensor part at the end that goes in the hub.

At this point, I've pretty much determined these are the product of the hub manufacturer making their own, different, sensor for some reason and doubt I'll ever find a set of replacement sensors that match. I'll either have to find some serious spacers and hope for the best, or replace the hubs to get new sensors that fit.

Maybe the hubs are wrong. I would not depend on a pic from a website to be accurate. Always take your part in when you can and compare.

The one on the right looks like a rear wheel sensor.

Do you know what brand hubs? I notice all the aftermarket hubs come with ABS sensors attached. So I think your right about it being brand specific. I think at this point you have two options. A- new hubs with sensors or B- jerry rig it with shims somehow. Anyways, wish you luck...

I would just make up a spacer so the sensor doesn't catch on the tone ring. You might also have to use a longer bolt! Make sure that the sensor and bolt don't catch on anything before you refit the disc and wheel. If you use a hex bolt IPO the allan key bolt you will free up some space! Good luck.
