I am installing an LSD I picked up and it appears the ring gear bolts are TTY (torque to yield) aka they stretch and should not be reused.

Do I have this right?

I cant seem to find a set for the rear on this Jeep...

Thanx

In every regearing video I have ever watched, they got red loctite and got reused. Someone else with actual knowledge should respond…

I re-use them. Loctite also.

Beware the bolt size changed mid '05. 3/8" vs 10mm.

  • DRK303MK Timken Master Differential Bearing Kit for Chrysler 8.25"

this is the kit I bought when I did my in my 2012 kk. I found that the bolts you are talking about were quite weak. I broke two if I remember correctly. I don’t have a habit of breaking bolts either. This at the very least is cheap insurance and you aren’t going to want to do this twice.

both the donor and ours are same 2003 so should be no issue. Just taking the LSD from a 2003 Renegade and popping it into a 2003 Limited.
and ya loctite for sure :)

Since I am not pulling and replacing the pinion I want to swap the ring from the open diff we have onto the LSD carrier, thus keeping the set matched.
When I pulled the ring off the LSD I forgot the bolts were reverse thread and I ended up cranking the first one in about 3/4 turn...
Betting that one is dead due to way over torque! Did not care tho as I figured I was going to get a set from where ever, threw that set out...
Then I discovered they are sold individually and that's unusual for a ring gear with TTY bolt...

There is still the orig set on the open carrier I can reuse tho, when I get to the job...

Just want to be sure I can reuse what I have as TTY bolts should never be reused...
