I recently purchased a 2006 Jeep Liberty 2.8 CRD and I am trying to determine what one of the previous owners did. I was told that an EGR delete was performed, but how do I know for sure. The throttle body is just zip tied to some wires. What parts are needed to install the throttle body? I need to get this vehicle inspected, but the cel is on and need to get the Jeep to a point where it would pass inspection. Can I just remove the throttle body from the Jeep? It is still plugged in. Will this throw a new code?

The egr is located against the left side of the block toward the rear. It can be bypassed and left in place or taken out. I think what you're calling a throttle body is the FCV or ACV. Flow contol valve or air control valve. They have plastic gears inside that strip out. Most CRD owners remove the whole thing or remove the butterfly valve and unplug it. It's normally located between the intercooler output hose and a cast elbow that's bolted to the intake manifold. Part of the EGR delete kit, (no longer available), is a tubular elbow that replaces the cast elbow.

If it revs once on startup before idling you probably have a GDE tune which is no longer available. Look at the fuel filter head for a blue electrical connector. Blue is good, it means you have the upgraded metal filter head. The plastic OE filter heads melt around the fuel heater connections and let air into the fuel system.

LOSTJEEPS forum has the most info on the 2.8 CRD.

I guess I am using the wrong terminology. The "throttle body" that I am referring to has a butterfly valve. I will unplug it.

Thank you for the reply. I have unplugged the butterfly valve and removed it from my Jeep. Both electrical connections on my fuel filter are black plugs. I have a GDE flasher. I was going to find out if I could get a new file to reflash the Jeep. Is there any way that I could check my current flash?

If you have a GDE flasher you probably have a GDE tune. That's what will be stored on your flasher possibly along with the stock tune. "Eco-tune" and "Full Torque" are the engine tunes and they also offer a transmission tune.

Do a scratch-test on your fuel filter head to find out if it's plastic or metal. If it's plastic check for moisture or melting inside the plug closest to the fender.

Does anyone have experience with tunes? I have a CEL for P0401, P0299, and P0101. Would flashing the ECU clear these codes? As previously mentioned, I am not sure if the entire EGR delete was conducted. I contacted GDE and based on the VIN, I was told by GDE that a tune was not created by them for this vehicle. I am not sure if a previous owner purchased the GDE flash tuner with the plan to purchase a flash from GDE.

Does anyone here have an account on LOSTJEEPS? I created an account, but I am unable to activate my account. Therefore, I cannot post or message users on the forums. Can anyone track down an email address for an admin that could assist me with finalizing my account creation?

I'm a moderator on LOST as well
what are you having issues with ?

As previously, I am not sure what was/wasn't done with the Liberty. When I purchased the vehicle, the FCV was just laying in the engine compartment, but I have since unplugged and removed it. I loaded Yeti's 808 EGR/FCV/DTC code delete + Mild tune (vers 1.02) - 450Nm. Would flashing the ECU remove any CELs? After flashing the ECU, I took the Liberty to my local AutoZone and pulled the codes - P0401 x2, P0299 x2, and P0101. I just registered the vehicle, so I need to get it inspected. I would like to clear the codes and get the Liberty running at its best. Any tips?

As for my LOSTJEEPS account, I can't activate my account. When I click on the link that was emailed to me, I get "You do not have the necessary permissions to complete this operation". If I try to enter my username and password, I get "The specified username is currently inactive. If you have problems activating your account, please contact a board administrator".

I left a message with an admin on LOST for you. No response so far.

If tommudd can help you're home free. I'm clueless about the exact capabilities and differences between administrators and moderators.

What was your old username at LOST?

I never had an account. My issue came when trying to activate an account (SOMDJeepFan). Hopefully, I can get someone to reply from LOST.

Have you heard anything from the LOST admin? MD offers a 30-day registration in order to get an inspection done on my vehicle. Hopefully, I can get the CEL resolved before the 30 days are up.

Nothing yet. I'll ask again.

I lived in MD for awhile and went through the hassles trying to please their DMV requirements. Gave up for awhile and commuted by bicycle for quite awhile.

Didn’t realize that a CEL would cause a fail on md state inspection.

Btw - very interesting read on p0299 and the turbo black box being flakey. Jeep says replace turbo. One guy shows most common issue with the box - and fixes!

Maryland! The Free State. Ain’t nothing free here except for BS. Glad I don’t live in the metro area. Did 3 yrs in Balto city years ago. Moved back home (western MD) and don’t regret that a bit.
