Hub replacement

I put mine in 4-low and put the emergency break on.
and started the nut with the wheel on the ground.
just enough to break it loose.

yeah ABS drives the price up a bit iirc the dealer local to me wanted over three hundred.

i ll try putting into 4wd. think i am going to have to get creative on locking the hub. cant fit the 36mm under/through the stock rim hole. plus the 36mm is a little too loose for the nut. maybe the 35mm will fit through.

I was thinking of my Dakota. as I just did a wheel bearing on it .

but you can do everything else I mentioned with the liberty, except take the wheel off first LOL.
I used an impact gun/wrench, but if you don't have one a breaker bar will work too just be careful, I've had the nut break loose and almost hit my self with the breaker bar LOL

found the 35 mm which fit thru the wheel perfectly. breaker bar took it off pretty easy too. all good!

Thanks to ptsb5a for these instructions. They helped tremendously. One thing I would like to add. Here in our lovely Western NY winters we use tons of salt on our roads and everything rusts terribly on our vehicles. It makes the 35 mm nut and the 3 bolts in the hub casting a little difficult to remove plus the spline on the axle shaft gets really stuck in the hub. So if you can spray some PB Blaster on the axle nut a couple days before it will help with unscrewing that nut off those rusty threads. Also once you get that nut screwed out even with the end of the axle shaft, give the end of the shaft a couple raps with a big hammer to dislodge the spline from the hub. Then you can proceed with the rest of the disassembly.

Just doing today the same Job in parallel to worrying about the turbo.. all the bolts span off my 2003 CRD easy but I was using the mother of all Milwaukee M18 impact wrenches.. I will clean up the rust off the recess where the new hub sits in and put a smear of anti seize marine stuff in to ensure it all goes back nicely.. getting it of was not difficult but my big club hammer helped, the drive shaft was quite well held in place but a few whacks moved it.. I did put the nut on rather than hitting the shaft ...
