hi guys my girlfriends 2004 liberty 3.7 4x4 is having a popping noise coming from the front end driver side i do believe, it sounds like something is smacking against the jeep but it happens every couple of minutes regardless of speed turns or braking. We took it to the shop and they took it for a drive replaced the ball joints and its still making the sound. so i got under it today and looked to see if maybe it was the wheel hub assembly and it wasnt i even had my friend come over and look at it too to verify it. we tried to see if most of the common points in the front end were going bad and nothing. maybe there is something on the other side or maybe we are feeling something coming from the back of the car and it feels like the front. i have no clue im not that car savey. just trying to get some ideas going before she leaves in the morning for a 3 hours drive to her parents. please help :(

C/V shaft on the passengers side, where it slips into the axle tube and rides on the bearing.

Grab the c/v joint and see if it wobbles.

It's probably the CV axle where it connects to the intermediate shaft on the passenger side.

We see a LOT of sway bar end links that do exactly what you describe, occasionally even the rubber sway bar frame mount. It takes very little wear for these things to sound like all hell's breaking loose.

just a side note how bad long before those will straight out break and cause bigger problems. like will she be okay driving 3 hours away? and maybe driving for a few days on it or is it a need fixed now kind of thing? talking about the sway bar. also how hard are they to fix??

Sway bar is just what it sounds like, to keep excess rocking down while cornering. IF that's what is is, absolutely no danger to drive, just noisy. And they will rattle a long time before separating.

I don't hear the specific clicking or popping you're talking about, but no way I'd let my girl go on a three hour trip with the low oil pressure light and the Check Engine light both on.

Get the Jeep to a shop pronto and find out why it is indicating low oil pressure (sensor issue or actual low oil pressure...?) And the Check Engine light is trying to tell you something as well.

Either or both of those lights are more likely to cause a problem on a three hour trip than the clicking/popping noises (unless the clicking noise is somehow related to the warning lights.)

Let us know what's causing those warning lights...

the oil pressure light was the oil pressure sensor and that was because jiffy lube f'ed it up and the check eng light was a 02 sensor we already knew about those problems but good and bad new good news is we found out what it was bad news is my girlfriend was on the side of the road for 2 hours because the ****** went out so im going to take a guess and say thats what it was she has a bad habit of not letting the car stop all the way before she shifts from reverse to drive or vise versa. so ill let you guys knew if we found anything else
