I've searched but haven't seen anything with a 2012 PowerTech 3.7 (from anything really) going into a KJ.
Just up to 2007/2008.
Can I replace the 3.7 in my 2004 KJ with the 3.7 out of a 2012 Ram?
I've read for other years to only use the longblock and swap out a reluctor or crank key or something.

Thoughts?

Yup
The above post is where I learned about the reluctor
But his wasnt a 2012
Just didn't know what EXACTLY interchanges.
I'll ask him though.
I also see the Cherokee was using the engine in 2013.
Although, don't know if that was domestically.

would be cool to find a 2012/2013 engine with under 20k miles on it and swap it over.

Just finished a 2012 swap in my '02 liberty, so that answers your question. You will need to swap out your reluctor ring on the crankshaft and camshaft tone ring from your 04 into the new engine. Twobobs has a great write up in the how to section and I documented my recent swap which can easily be found in the members journal section. The search option will yield you lots of great info. Good luck!!

Thanks to mx3_ryder we now know the '12s can be swapped in. In my write-up I mentioned that a block up to at least 2011 could be swapped in and I would wager that the '13s are eligible too.

A low-mileage 2012 would be a nice upgrade - the compression ratio is higher than the earlier 3.7's and the oil galleys were changed to get rid of the oil sludging issues.

Kinda wish now I'd found a newer engine - though the '07 I found only had 9700 miles on it.

I am really glad to hear that a newer 2012 3.7 can be installed.
Why do I have dreams of somehow installing a 3.6 (285HP) Pentastar?

That would definitely be a nice upgrade. I wonder if it would fit? I've got one in my Avenger and it is peppy even though it's FWD. Talk about torque steer! Need the 6 speed manual though. I think mines rated at about 285HP but the 62TE 6 speed is not helpful with its MPG conscious shiftpoints. The autostick is fun. I should add that I get 32mpg on the highway and about 26 with a mix of about 60/40 city/highway, but not if I use the autostick.
