I must admit, knowing the history of these things I get a little antsy every time I look outside and see that it's raining. I am absolutely certain that if I have one go it will be during the heaviest rain of the year. Or maybe when a flock of diarrhea-stricken birds who have just filled up on blueberries is directly overhead.

(Having a vivid imagination is both a blessing and a curse.) :hmm:

Just keep a smaller or half used roll of duct tape under the seat. Peace of mind that if it poops the bed, you can tape the window up temporarily from the inside.

I've also found that duct tape helps to reduce annoying interior cabin noise.
But man does she get pissed if I rip the tape off too fast! ;)

For what its worth, I bought about 6 suction cups from the hardware (the kind with the hook on them, and about 2" in diameter) and it held a failed window for about 4 days and around 400-450 miles. No mess to clean up, just stick em on the inside of the window along the top of the door panel. They are in the jeep at all times.

You're the one! I saw your post about that a good while back and have recommended it to several other people since. Never could remember who to give the credit to, though - until now. :D

thats me! Ive seen too many KJs around with tape residue on the windows/doors and wanted to try something else. Worked well, and they fit in the tool box I keep in the Jeep without taking up any room really.

Wow, two months and I haven't done a thing.

I cruised hardware stores yesterday trying to find some T-Clamps for the roof rack mod I've had on the back burner for the past six months. No luck, so I ordered some online from FarmTek.

I also bought four cans of PlastiDip for my wheels. For anyone who has done this, did you Dip over the lug nuts with plans to touch them up when you rotate the tires? Or is it easier to just buy black ones? (It sure ain't cheaper when you're replacing all twenty-five of them...) Or do you think it might look better leaving them chrome? It'll cost me fifty bucks to replace them all (unless someone knows a place to get good ones cheap), so if replacement is recommended it might wait until my next tire rotation. I'm due now and was going to rotate them during the PlastiDip process, so I'd have some time. (And hopefully a steady income to pay for them.)

Another question: I am on a mission to completely de-chrome the Liberty. My plan right now is to PlastiDip all the logos. (The "Jeep" and "4X4", etc.) I don't mind investing the time to mask them off, but the little teensy parts like in the "e's" and the "p" in Jeep will be tough. Does the old Vaseline trick work with PlastiDip like it does with paint? Back when I did a fair amount of painting you could use a Q-tip and Vaseline to mask small areas, paint over it, then Q-tip it back off after the paint had dried. I just don't want to make a mess of it. I am also leery of prying the letters off and trying to get them back on again. It would sure make the dipping process easier but I am more afraid of messing something up that way.

For your consideration... ;)

If you have the stock (2 piece) lugs ... it is only a matter of time before they cause you grief. I would (and did) change them out for any of the one piece lugs (McGaurds etc.) anyways.. even if you didn't want a colour change. The chrome covers can snap off and leave you with a little "nub" of a nut :D

The logos would be much easier and look much better if you took them off to paint. A little heat and some dental floss/fishing line and they will come right off. :waytogo:

P.S. Let's get crackin' already ... Sheesh!

I've had that happen with other cars. I think I'll rotate the tires and dip the whole works for now, then replace the nuts when I'm due for the next tire rotation. Hopefully by then I will have a little more money, though at the rate I'm going it might be six months before another 3,000 miles roll by.

Check, and check. I'm mainly concerned with two things:

1) Putting them back on straight and in the right place.
2) Not having them fall off the first time I hit a nice bump on the road.

What do you glue them back on with, and how do you ensure they line up properly? I don't want it to look like Jethro Bodine did it.

I managed to find a few YouTube videos where people just masked the general area, leaving a 1" border around the whole works, then just yanked it off around the emblems. They make it look easy. (Yeah, I know...) :emotions34:

Kinda like this:

[YT]1zbxB8OKSks[/YT]

That guy uses a flat tip screwdriver for the inside sections but the other ones I saw recommended a toothpick. I've got some plastic toothpicks I think would be fairly safe for the paint.

P.S. Let's get crackin' already ... Sheesh!
I'd love to. I am taking odd jobs while I wait for my bright shiny new IT degree to get me the job that was a "lead pipe cinch". Until I get a steady income I can only plan and scheme. Four cans of PlastiDip is about all I can swing right now. :(

3M adhesive strips ... (same stuff that's holding your side moldings on) ...a ruler ... and some visual acuity ;)

I just think ... for the emblems it might as well be permanent so I would never have to do it again, but whatever floats yur boat. :)

Visual acuity? Can I get that at Home Depot?

I think for round one (I'm such an optimist!) I might try the quick-and-dirty way. You're right, and I usually try to do things the right way right off the bat, but if it goes wrong I can always peel them off and do it right. Maybe I'll find someone with a steady hand and a good eye to line them up for me.

Thank you, Luke! :)

What I like the best about our conversation... is that you had so little faith in my reading comprehension that you had to highlight your question in red :happy175: :waytogo:

We all hate threads where someone doesn't give enough information to allow the reader to know what they're trying to do. I try to give enough background to be useful but I don't want the main question to get lost in all my blather.

Is that good enough for you? :happy175:

Got the rims and the emblems dipped today. Rotated the tires while I was at it. Pictures coming tomorrow if my poor sore back cooperates.

Short verdict: Rims look good but I made one minor mistake which can be remedied with a quick touch-up. The emblems look great, though the front now says "P-E-J-E" and the back says "4-4-x". Oh, and I also now have a "7.3", so that's good. Dang it, Luke. :icon_twisted:

(Actually, I did them in place. I think they turned out quite nice, though I'll leave it to the rest of you to decide once I get the pictures posted.) ;)
