Broken Clevis Bolt at under 100 ft lb?

Completing the install of OME lift, using torque wrench to tighten clevis bolt, snapped the bolt at under 100ft lbs ... Any one else had this experience? or is my torque wrench off?

No .. but I do know some years have a much weaker looking bolt :shrug:

If you were asking me, I was going to tighten to 100ft-lb per the torque specs on the Wiki. I can see now that is way wrong.

It's an '07 Limited, manufacture date on the door is Dec '06. The broken bolt was labeled "10.9" I've included pics.

I got a new bolt labeled "8.8" from Napa as a temporary replacement. It's a hex head bolt, but doesn't have the built-in flange/washer head that the OEM bolt has. Any suggestions on the best bolt to replace both of them with (links are appreciated if available online)? I see the above suggestion for m10 clevis bolt but I googled that and only found clevis pins. I could also go through the dealer if that is best.

After reading the link to the other thread, I am guessing I over torqued the other side (took it to 80+ and wasn't about to go any higher) so I'm going to measure the gap and just replace both bolts when I put the snow tires on later this week.

We ended up welding a larger nut onto the broken half that was protruding from the threads, and pulled the bolt through. It was actually a quick and easy fix, wish we hadn't spent time monkeying around with drills and (not so)easy-outs.

get another metric 10.9 grade or near equivlent grade 8.

8.8 metric is closer to grade 5.

Fastenal can help you out. or the dealer.

I take mine to 65 ftlbs. no stretching yet.

I ordered two from the dealer. $3.40 each.

This is what everything was tightened to:

Front Ball Joint Nut (Upper) 21mm 60 lbs-ft
Front Clevis Bolt (Upper) 21mm 100 lbs-ft (WRONG)
Front Shock/Strut Mounting Nuts 18mm 80 lbs-ft
Front Sway Bar End Link (Lower) 18mm 85 lbs-ft

That's all we took apart.
