I've only found a handful of posts about it pertaining to the Libby... So has anyone done this and experienced any benefits? Pros/cons? I know the big boys seem to like it...

02 45rfe and I'm having the transgo kit installed as well, I spoke with the tech dept. @transgo and they said that because I have an 02 with that model trans... That I can install it with the resistor. The guy at transgo is actually who tipped me off to this "mod"...

This usually only works on vehicles with a 45/545RFE and a separate TCM. I pulled the TM wire on my Ram (2003) since it is set up that way and I can't custom tune the trans. I also have a Sonnax line booster installed to up the line pressure. Does your 02 have a TCM? If so, you should be able to find that wire and pull it. You will really only notice any difference at WOT.

I'm thinking of installing it with a toggle switch as described in the article... I will post up if/when I do this. But any other constructive criticism is welcome from now until them!

That's abnormal. I used to race my friend in his XJ all the time in my KJ. He would take it off the line but the KJ would overcome it at the top of second. And the XJ is lighter by a few hundred pounds.

He had to have had a fubard 4.0. Every straight 6 I have ever had has out shown a 3.7. I'm used to a stroked 5 speed xj, and an mj with a built s2 buick 3800, so maybe a bit spoiled.

Either way, it really feels like my issue is that the trans shifts like my grandma Betty getting out of the way of a pterodactyl.....r.i.p. lol. I like the idea of dropping comfort mode...that's the first mod I did to all 87 to 91 jeeps with aw4s. Makes a world of difference there. I think it's just inherrent lack of decent shifting...and poorly thought design. I know everything is mechanically sound so it's gotta be in the design.

Definitely wasn't FUBARd. But you're definitely right about the trans shifts sucking...

Have you ever driven a WJ with the 4.0? SLOOWWWW (but of course, added weight, the WKs with the 3.7 are balls slow as well).

I have better things that I would rather have stroked than my engine

Cool thing about the RFE vs the RLE is there is tons of aftermarket support for it. Valve bodies, TC's, shift kits, etc. They make built RFE's for overbuilt hemi trucks. The stock programming on the RFE is still miles better than the RLE. I purposely leave OD off unless I'm actually getting to highway speeds because the damn thing heads for 4th gear do damn quick.

All disabling the TM will do is keep the engine from dropping power during shifts, but like I said it's only noticeable at WOT.
