I have the Frankenlift on my Jeep we installed in December, and the passenger side boot has ruptured (the big boot closest to the intermediate shaft, not the one near the wheel).

I already purchased NAPA reman. shafts, but I am waiting on an intermediate shaft to ship to me from rockauto, and also some JBA A-Arms i'd like to throw on all at once.

I'm not entirely sure how long it has been busted, but it isn't making any sounds as of yet. I just noticed the grease on the wheel well one day and checked it out.

I'm hoping the other parts will get here by Saturday and I can do it Sunday, but I work the next 3 days.

I'm just curious how bad it would be to drive on it, or if I should rent a car in the meantime? Like I said, everything is about to get replaced, but just need some time for parts to come in.

If your going to replace the boot and try to save the cv joint I wouldn't drive it at all. If your replacing it then just drive it. Wouldn't drive it more than a few weeks.

since your tossing it for a reman, i wouldn't worry about it so long as your not planning 5K road trips as it will eventually dry up and start making noise.

Do you think the strut chopped it off?

How would I fix that if it did?

Same exact tear, same place, same duration after installing my Frankenlift ... old CV and extreme angles ... as mentioned

I filled mine up with grease and made a band-aid out of heavy duty plastic, hockey tape (lattice for reinforcement) and zip ties. Held up fine (1k) until I got the new one in.

Funny have never had a CV do that in any of the lifts I've done
NOW I do know that if your not very very careful a Frankenlift will pinch the boot right about there. Almost had it happen on a couple.

Mostly seen that on big IFS lifted chevys, and subarus and very common on grand cherokees.

It's weird .. I may have nicked it at the time .. but the pass side was a dream to install compared to the driver's. :emotions122:
