Doing this mod in a 05 KJ CRD

Thanks to myjeepwalks for the great write up. I finally got around to doing this mod today after having the PDF stored on my laptop for two years. The relay is the same but the wires from the multifunction switch are a narrower gauge and are a different color on the 05 KJ. I am sure that the 04-07 will all be the same as well. The tap wire is white with an orange stripe. There are two wires of the same color, the one you want is pin #2. The pins are numbered on the back of the plug, so it shouldn't be two hard to find.

Here you can see which terminal to use.

A clamp on splice is much easier and cleaner than trying to solder a wire up in this tight space.

wouldnt doing this mod cause the lights to fail state inspection?

I would not think so, because you can hook up fogs to a car that doesn't even have them, and have them on with high-beams. Even if so? I have never had an inspection shop turn my fogs on, then turn the high beams on to see if they go off. They never touch the fog lights, not on any car I have had with them, and had inspected. Fogs are an option, and not a "pass or fail" item on a vehicle, as with ABS, or TPMS.

Completed the mod this evening. Thanks Myjeepwalks for the how-to. The much improved near field lighting makes driving at night much more comfortable during great big deer on the road season. The extra illumination in the ditches is welcomed. Thanks again.

nice

as far as failing state inspection:
this mod does not bypass the foglight switch i dont think
so if you dont turn them on then they dont stay on with the high beam

OR am i incorrect ???

Nice mod i love it works extra well with the fog light mod that lets you run headlight bulbs in the fogs..

Hey guys ...I've got an 06 Liberty Renegade with factory installed fog lights .. One burned out..I opened the case thinking I could switch out the bulb ..Nope, looks like a seal beam ..Is this right or is there a way to swap just the bulb without having to buy another sealed unit?

Thanks
Ed

it shouldn't be sealed. looks like you got it after some unprofessional repair.
you disconnect wire from bulb socket. then turn bulb socket a bit and it will be out of reflector unit.

Just did this mod, PDF was very helpful. One thing that would be helpful to note... the torx screws on the steering wheel cover take a torx 20 but a torx 15 will work. And you need a driver that is close to 3 inches deep to get to the screw head. Otherwise I didn't have any hang up. I am MUCH happier now with my 04 Sport's high beams.

just finished this up, i just soldiered the jumper wire to the relay, and then reinstalled the relay, and tapped into the multi function switch wiring harness! hardest part was getting the relay out...

Great write up, just got mine done. Good inexpensive mod. Hardest part was getting the relay out, visibility of connecting wire connectors to the fuse block was a little tricky.

Thank you sir!

Anyone have the PDF to go with this post? It seems to be gone, and I'd love to do this mod to my '03 renegade

Realistically, in 145,000 miles of driving a KJ, ThunderbirdJunkie never once found it necessary to use cogs and high beams.

Turn on your lights, turn on your fog lights, pull the lever to turn on your brights release then pull it again and hold it, while you are holding it they will both be on :D

And both filaments are burning in your headlight bulbs, thus making them burn out faster.
