My sway bar bushings on my 2004 KJ are doing the normal "sqeak" in the front end and I plan on trying the poly bushings sold at AutoZone that have a zerk installed for greasing. I looked at them today and think they will work. I just need to know the exact size of the sway bar. Does anybody have a caliper measuring tool to get me the exact size of the bar? It appears to be about 1 1/8 inch, but I want to know exact before I buy these. They are only $21 by the way. I have done a lot of work on my KJ since buying it this summer. 2 1/2 inch Daystar lift, 16x8 Rubicon Moab Wheels with 265/70R16 Yokohamas, all new brakes (they were rattling bad) and rotors. I do most all of my own work and will post the things I have done so others know how to fix the problems themselves and save a trip to the dealer. I'm new to this forum and hope to find someone that knows the answer to my sway bar diameter.

Just spray them with silicone spray every oil change and they'll be good. Mines quiet even at 150,000 miles................

i used that autzone swaybar bushing. you would have to order a slightly smaller one because the one they stock on the shelves is just a little bit to big, i wrote a thread about it you can read that

I found your thread last night. You used the 1 1/4 inch one didn't you? They have some 1 1/8 inch, do you think that would be better? Also, how have they held up?

Thanks,

Dusty

Does anyone make TPR bushings for us?
TPR is a superior bushing material to poly, but I just spent about 5 minutes searching and didnt find anything...

Sorry if this is a stupid question, tom, but how are you spraying them exactly? I've sprayed mine down and they continue to squeak.

I used joint-points grease for my sway bushings. so they don't squeak.
I wonder why one would want to replace them - original sway bushings will outlast everything in my KJ for sure.

I've sprayed mine too and they keep making noise. The lift puts much more stress on them as well....wish they made extended sway bar links for the KJ's

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Hi guys!

Any news on replacing the bushings by poly ones?
Remove old bushings, clean swaybar real well, install new rubber bushings(OEM),and do not grease.Keep them clean by washing them often with high pressure water/soap and they will stay sqeak free.Mine did for 8 years, never greased them, was lifted also, and no noise on OEM bushings.

I do that too and no squeeks. I am under the jeep anyway when I do the oil changes so I check everything out underneith and spray the bushings while I am at it.

I spray them as well and it keeps 'em quiet.
I figured I try some polyurethane bushings to see if it improves on road handling any!
They were inexpensive.
I also just bought/received new steering rack bushings as the drivers side is completely disintegrated! Too bad I can't find those in polyurethane!

How difficult is it to replace the bushings? I keep sprayin them to no avail. :(

It wouldn't bother me so much if people didn't hop in my car and call it a piece of crap every time I go over a bump. :(

I would stop, get out, open their door and tell them in my own special way to exit the vehicle and walk!
And if they didn't exit quick enough I'd give them a helping hand exiting my vehicle...
Some people Eh?
