i run with a hook in my hitch all the time... one of the three times ive been rearended the pontiac got its front plastic hooked on my hook..

when i went back to point this out to the girl she was so afraid to report it ( no insurance) that she told me to just drive away.. i warned her again of the possible damage..

she insisted...

:D

when i drove away i pulled off her entire front plastic/bumper
as i was driving off she tried to flag me down.. i slowed enough to tell her that i warned her and it wasnt my problem anymore..
hehehe

i haul my 97 Artic Cat ZRT 600 up to VT in the winter from MA for some riding. Other than that we have a 16' Alumnicraft with a 20hp (it might as well be a dingy) for fishing that I have to tow, seeing as no one else is setup for towing :)

91 Polaris Widetrak 500 and now 10 Polaris IQ Widetrak 600, in each case on a 8' X 10' tiltbed snowmachine trailer.
A-Liner hardsided pop-up A frame camping trailer,

03 Limited, 3.7, 45RFE, Offroad package and factory trailer hitch and wiring.

Never a problem.

Only way to ride from Tok, AK to Dawson, YT up here in the winter. 200 miles of unplowed road!

Not a lot of roads given the size of the state. Private plane way to expensive.

Great way to see the back country in the winter. Think Snow!

And it's a blue (Atlantic) Liberty!!

5x13 utility trailer, home-built. Uses the same size tire and wheel as the KJ, so I don't have to have a separate spare for the trailer. Trailer weighs in at 980# empty. It has had pretty much everything conceivable on it...wood, lumber, dirt, quads, parts, furniture, leaves, steel, tools, animals, brush....

My Libby came with a Mopar trailer package c/w a class III hitch. I bought it with the intention of pulling a 22' travel trailer but I've since realized it's not large enough to be pulling such a big mass.

I'm going to need a bigger tow rig or a smaller trailer :)

I do occasionally tow about a 16' floater trailer with my Libby.

But I wouldn't pull anything large without a transmission cooling system and both rad cooling fans.

Mostly I pull about a small 10' utility trailer (I consider it my "big wheel barrow" ;)) to carry about yard trash, tires or large Jeep parts.

I've used the hitch receiver for a tow point many times however I suggest that you lose the hitch receiver mounted "hook". Recovery straps easily slip off of it and sometimes tear holes in the straps. Pick up a D link setup.
