WARNING - Perform the following at your own risk. This should be for "off-road applications only". Your results may vary. 4/5 dentists approve of the following message. Clinical studies have shown some cases of moderate-to-severe side effects may occur with use. Please consult your physician prior to beginning treatment. Did I miss anything?

Just a quick note, maybe this could be built into a "how-to"

The only way to 100% kill TCS/ABS is to kill the ABS pump.

If you want a way that doesn't hack up wires and is "switchable"....

- Find the ABS fuse (not sure where it is, underhood or in dash).
- Buy the appropriate inline fuse from an auto store
- break the existing mini-fuse and keep the two metal legs
- solder one leg to the inline fuse unit.
- Wire the inline fuse unit to a switch
- Solder the other leg of the broken fuse to a wire running tothe other side of the switch
- insert each of the two soldered legs into factory location.

There ya go - it's still fused, it's totally reversable, and it's switchable. No cutting wires, can completely be put back to stock. You only sacrifice a mini-fuse and a hole somewhere in the dash to mount the switch.

Be aware for the light show that ensues when you turn the system off!

I can move it to the How To section and change the title, Atrus if you'd like. :D

Thanks for doing a write up.

I would high discourage the above. It's your choice but if something does happen(accident) with that setup your SOL and will be paying 100% from out of pocket since your insurance company will deny coverage.

That is NOT entirely true. I was looking for the legal connotations, at least for Pennsylvania, I cannot find it. With PA inspection, and Emissions, ABS, ESP, BAS, and all that does not have to be "functional" to PASS the road safety inspection. Just so you know, in PA, about the inspections, if the car does not PASS, you can't drive it. An ABS light will not cause the car to fail inspection. As long as the brakes WORK, it passes inspection, or the OBDII emissions test. This may change one day...

An insurance company cannot refuse a claim IN PA, because ABS was not working. If you can buy a car WITHOUT the option, then one WITH the option cannot be refused because it was off-line, not working, or malfunctioning. ABS, ESP, BAS, and traction control are not a state or federal mandate. This may vary from state to state, but, in PA, if it is NOT a Mandatory inspectable item for ROAD SAFETY, they (insurance) can't really deny coverage because it was not working. If it was such a big deal, then the state should mandate it work, if not FAIL...

They don't even look at the tires either, because you cannot FAIL a car because the tires are not the STOCK size. However, if they stick out more than 1" beyond the fender, it will fail. If you are lifted to high, you fail. I can't be failed, even if the SRS light is on, or the Airbags are missing. It is NOT a failable offense. However? If I was not wearing my seat-belt, because it is PA LAW? They can refuse the claim, if the accident was MY fault, plus it is ON my insurance policy.

If your insurance policy plainly shows DISCOUNTS for ABS, ESP, SRS, and all that, THEN they can refuse a claim. In PA? They do NOT technically offer discounts for safety features, it is NOT itemized on the policy. Mine only has SAFE DRIVER, ANTI-THEFT, and PASSIVE RESTRAINT discounts, nothing for SRS, ABS, ESP, BAS, or Traction control, therefore, they cannot refuse the claim, SINCE it was not an item listed for discount. 9 times out of 10, they aren't looking anyway. I pay 61 a month, for 10 months for full coverage too. It was LESS with the Avenger. I got an EXCELLENT company, and they have paid out NO questions asked. They come take pictures, and send a check. They have NEVER looked at the tire sizes, for MILs, fuses not in the box NOTHING. Untill there is a universal way to insure cars, the same for EVERYONE, you always got the better odds of it being over-looked.

When I had ONE RIM on my avenger damaged, I filed a claim for comprehensive, as they are $360.00 each. A truck in front of me dropped a big rock, and tore one of my rims up. Well, two others had pre-existing damage. They came to my office while I was out working, but I had TOLD them what rim (singular) was damaged; I got a check for THREE damaged rims, at $360.00 each, minus 250.00 deductible... So, there was a 700-some dollar payday for me. I SAID, ONE RIM, well, they looked at all four, and came to their own conclusion.

Also, these new features are not without flaws, or malfunctions. What if you're driving, and for no reason, the AIRBAGs deploy, or your BAS slams the brakes and people smash into you, and others into them? Who's paying for that? Probably Chrysler.... Your insurance company will try their best to fault the car MFR before paying, because, YOU didn't do it, the stupid car did, with all the ******** electronics; and it malfunctioned.

THEN, it all depends on your carrier. I have lent a car out, got wrecked, and I got paid. No questions asked, no looking over the car, NOTHING. If the other party doesn't request a thorough inspection of the vehicle, from stem to stern, then what can they do?

So, I can pull the ABS fuse, put huge tires on, they won't deny a claim. AS long as the policy doesn't show or mandate these features? You're good to go. If anyone here in PA has an itemized DISCOUNT list that shows SRS, ABS, ESP, BAS, TRACTION CONTROL discounts, I would like to know, and SEE that.

Small petty stuff they don't bother but get in that one big wreck that has multi-million dollar hospital bills,a death,or alcohol/drugs involved and they will be looking very hard, trust me I've seen it working with insurance company's for 3 years at the bodyshop. Some states may not care but that is rapidly changing.

Oh just for the record any aftermarket items on your vehicle are not automatically insured, your insurance company may choose to pay for that aftermarket item or not unless you opt to have special coverage for aftermarket items.Found that out from all the insurance adjusters I've personally worked with and why everything aftermarket is special insured from my insurance company(pay plenty extra to).

Troy is right, this is why I've never seriously modded any Jeep, and won't start anytime soon. I'm not gonna pay the extra costs to insure the mods (And these costs are extremely high)

An insurance company (well at least mine does) PULL A BUILD SHEET, they know what a vehicle is supposed to be equipped with.

... although in my case they have never inspected my vehicle to see if these systems are working or not. Then again, NONE of ANY of the accidents I've ever been in have been my fault.

And Argh... not again!!!!!

Back to getting rid of ABS!!!! Please!

Yeah my insurance company has detailed pics(about 100 or so) and a copy of every single receipt for any mods done(there going to freak out with my 2" thick book of receipts for my SFA swap). They also pull a carfax(among others) once a year to make sure nothing major is slipping by them. The biggest factor why I went with my current insurance company was the fact as long as I am on a "legal" road I'm covered(gotta read that fine print) and all the trails here in CO are "legal" roads(forest service roads),plus one of my good buddies from HS is my agent(it has it perks). So my full coverage($250/$250 comp/collision) runs me $73 each month,$8 is my renters insurance,$3 is my tools(yes my tools are insured),$7 for my paint job(includes my aftermarket bumpers and such),and the rest is for the actual insurance. Can't wait to see what's it going to cost for the SFA stuff:eek:.

I wish my insurance was $73/mo. Mine is $236 and the only reason why it is THAT LOW (Research Michigan / Detroit insurance costs, has NOTHING to do with my age!!!!) is because my insurance agent is a family friend. (Mom's friend back in grade school.)

Thing Is I live a block and a half away from the suburbs.

If I moved a block and a half away.... it would drop to $170. Maybe even lower than that.

What a F*^&# up world we live in...

I just googled your zip because I spent a lot of time in Detroit when I was younger and I thought I might know your hood.
The very first hit on the list declared that there are currently 99 registered sex offenders in your zip code. Talk about a tourism campaign!

sorry about the threadjacked.gif
