I am shopping for a new trailer hitch and as with everything else there are lots of choices. Wondering if anyone has had good success with a certain manufacturer / model. Thanks in advance.

Try etrailer.. Ive got the draw tite and love it since it has a longer neck which helps with clearing the spare tire. Most people complain about that but mine has never gotten in the way.

If youre going to be towing a trailer with electric brakes then the mopar wiring harness is the best.

I don't know what you are planning on towing, but a good point was made a while back on another towing thread.

When I bought my my 2" recever hitch, I thought I was getting a "Class III". The uni-body has 3 holes per side, yet my hitch only uses the rear most two. Somone pointed out that if the hitch were truely Class III, all three holes on each side would be used.

It was mentioned also there are some brands that only use 2 per side and skip the middle hole. If so, you could drill the missing hole and add the third bolt on each side. Easier to just buy the 3 hole version with all the needed hardware.

I rarely tow, it was more of a "have one if needed" thing so I'm not too upset. If I were to start dragging a camp trailer or something similar I would re-address this first.

I looked at Etrailer(I bought my car one from them) but I went to LanChester Trailer for the jeep one. It turns out the Putnam unit from them was almost 60 bucks cheaper than Etrailer wanted. The thing with LanChester is you have to phone order, they have a website but not order online.
It installed flawlessly and is positioned for very nice use with the spare tire in place. When getting the harness, pay extra and get the exact fit model harness. It will have the BIG connectors and instructions to do it right.

I looked at the U-Haul hitch. It says that it is class III, but it is 350 tongue / 3500 total weight. It is 500 / 5000 with weight distribution. This would certainly be enough for me. I have a Reese weight distribution set up. Plus, the max i will tow is a 2500# car on a 1000# trailer. The price is right at $129 from Uhaul and $109 on Ebay (both with free shipping. What do you guys think?

Seems decent enough. Invest in a tap to tap your frame nuts out, however. The nuts on mine were filled with dirt and rust.

I second that... I bought the Curt model from Etrailer, and it took me longer to clean out the nuts in the frame then it did to install them. But if you happen to have the gas tank skid plate then you won't have that problem because the bolts will already be in place holding that skid. So all you have to do is unbolt the skid and bolt the hitch on.

That is the hitch that I bought, no complaints, the model I picked up was actually made by Curt and sold as a Uhaul hitch

Good Luck
