2006 Liberty door thing that holds it open?

Hi from Pa. Does anyone know what the little braket attached to a pnewmatic rod inside the door is called? Mine is broke already, both sides, bolt broke off too. I cant seem to find out what this thing is called, and I know its a dealer part so Im probably gonna really get rear ended on new ones. Also, has anyone else had issues with this thing? Thank you.

How did you possibly break that thing off? Do you park on steap hills and let the door swing open? I see a lot of women doing that. They fling the door open so they can grab their suit case(purse) all while talking on the phone and sliding out of their over sized short bus. Sorry, Ill stop.

I had that happen to me in an Astro van I had. The pins just wore and broke.

Are you saying you tore the mounts from the body and door, or just the retainer pins? I doubt you tore the bracket from the body, they are on there pretty good. However, the one inside the door, they can break, and the bracket can rear off..

If all it was was the pins, then that's all the needs replaced.

The drivers door is broke in two, with the one bolt snapped off inside the frame. The other door has the bottom bolt snapped off also, but the bracket is there, for now. The dealer says my extended coverage doesnt cover this. Figures. They want $400.00 to fix it, says the doors have to come off so they can drill out the bolts and retap. I asked him what those brackets cost, just in case I can fix it myself,(I doubt it). and he said they are around $50.00 a piece!
There is only 40k on the Jeep, and no, we dont park on hills a lot. My wife is p.od, and says shes going to write to Jeep Crporate, and let them know our discut with what we feel is a defect in workmanship.

Jeepjeepster, thanks for the microfiche. $35.00 is better then $50.00. I think I could probably make the bracket, if it werent for getting the snapped bolts out.

I now see there is no way Im getting them out. I can see that now, I know my limitations. Does anyone have an address for jeep Corperate Headquarters, so we can write a letter complaining about this piss poor design flaw? Thank you.

You just got unlucky.You've been the 1st to complain about breaking the door stops.My KJ is 7 years old and my door stops are plastic and still doing great and I wheel my KJ often so the doors get forced opened with some force when on some very steep inclines.Someone was a little rough on the doors and not fessing up on this one,the doors where kicked/forced open with great force to break those door stops since the 2 per door metal hinges have intergrated stops built into them also to prevent those plastic door stops from breaking.

Yea, the kj's door hinges and stop are pretty beefy. Engineers did a good job on it.

With our WK, if you let the door swing open to fast it will bend the hinges back allowing the door to hit the fender. They do not have a stop at all like ours, its just some little stops on the hinges. Pretty crappy design really. Ive warned everyone in the family about it but we will see how that goes.
