Thanks for the writeup!

One important note, this document refers to the factory installed foglights, its a bit different if you add the mopar foglight kit.

No problem, I'm just glad i got it to work. O:)

Yes it refers to factory fog lights. I'm not really sure what you would have to do for the mopar kit. I'm sure it's able to be done though. Ive seen the directions for the mopar kit, it's just pictures. I'd have to see the actual harness that comes with the mopar lights to figure it out.

Its really (theoretically) a cakewalk, just attach the wire that goes to the headlight to the parking light instead. The mopar kit doesnt use any built-in-to-the-body-of-the-libby relays, it has its own relay in the harness (if my aging memory serves)

So the wire coming from the multi function switch is the ground? Is that what would turn the fog lights on normally? :-k

What was the pin on the relay that you didnt use?

Yes, the fog wire coming from the multifunction switch is the ground it normally goes to the bcm then the bcm has another wire that comes out of it and grounds the relay. When the bcm saw that the high beams are on it would kill the ground going to the relay. With the mod the, multifunction switch is supplying the ground directly to the relay every time you engage the fog switch therefore bypassing the bcm.

If you pull the relay out you will see the diagram on the side of it. Relays have an 86, 85, 30, 87, and an 87A. Also on the side of the relay where these #'s are you will see the #'s 1-5 circled. For example 87A Which is the pin that is not used will have a circled #4, Now look at the relay where the pins are and look for the #4 and that is 87A. If you look into the junction block where that actual pin on the relay plugs into you will see there is no wire there. Pin #1 is 85 (ground) and that is the one that gets hooked to the fog wire coming out of the multifunction switch.

I'm probably not the best at explaining things #-o but i'm doing my best trying to make this make sense O:) If anyone else has done it and can explain things better feel free to chime in.

Thanks for the write up man. I just completed it right now and everything is working fine. I like how it creates more night driving visability. It was pretty easy. There was only two things that were a little tricky, my KJ came with two of those white wires with the tan or orange stripe so i had to strip both of them and try the 2 foot wire on both and removing the relay, damn that thing was stuck in there pretty good.

On the 05 the wire from multi function switch is wht/or and is connected to pin 2 of connector C1. The relay comes out easily with a pair of long nose pliers.

Damn I wish I had thought to use needle nose pliers when I was doing it, that would of made things easier.

Glad you got it to work too! Yeah they do light up the back roads alot better with the high beam/fog combo. Like i said in the write up i was unsure if the wire color was the same on all years.

Neal did you do this mod also??

So you are saying to not pull the relay? Just use one 2 foot wire from there to the parking light? Fprget the other 3 wires?

Thanks for all the info in this thread. I just did this mod on our '05 Renegade and it works great. Neal identified the correct wire at the multifunction switch connector and that helped make it easy. Instead of running the 3 short wires and tying the relay away from the panel as shown, I just soldered a wire to connector #1, bent the connector around 180 degrees to the outside and plugged the relay back in. There was plenty of room in the relay socket to allow this without any trimming. If anyone is interested in a picture of the relay, I could easily take one and post a link here.

has anyone with an 06 done this? is there a more refined way to do it or do we still use the 3 wires on the relay?

( this is VERY similar to how you do it in PT Cruisers)

mine was an 06 and i just wound up doing it with 3 wires like was stated.

Yes, I just did this with my 06 over the weekend using the three wires and works like a charm. Found that the wiring on mine was orange and white, there were actually 2 of them and I guess on which one. haha.

If pin#1 is ground than could you just bend the pin and connect to a body ground or do you need the ground from the BCM?

Does this relay only work when any of the parking/headlights are on? If so, than grounding the relay may work but the relay will be on all the time......I'm not sure......Any thoughts?

I wired this up yesterday it works great! Pretty dang easy! Only took like 20 mins but most the time was spent deciding what wire to splice into because the write up labeled it tan and white but it looked orange and white to me, but anyway the only disappointment I have is that the fog light indicator in the dash doesn't stay on when you switch to high beam... but oh well!

Well I would just like to post my gratitude to 'myjeepwalks' for this write up. I made all of the wiring up last night sitting at my kitchen table. I just went and installed it and it might have taken 20 minutes. I have a 2002 just like in the write up so all of the wiring was exactly the same. I had 3 white wires; 2 had green stripes and the other was tan & white, so it was an easy decision as to which one to tap. I used a T-tap connector instead of solder because of the tight space. It works great and it only makes sense to me that when you turn your brights on, that you would want as much light as possible. I couldn't care less about the foglight indicator going off. I know if my fogs are on are not. Thanks again!
