I've got a 2004 Sport 4wd, transmission went. My question is would a low mileage salvage yard transmission from an 06 work? Is anything different as far as plugs, sensors, bolt patterns?

That's what i figured, just wanted a second opinion on it. Going to go pick up a transmission from an 84,*** 06 Liberty that was wrecked in the front for $400

Not an expert but will share what I know. Both '04 & '06 use 42RLE trans. The bolt pattern to the engine & starter is the same and plugs should be the same. You can check this by looking up part numbers for input & out put speed sensors and the third plug on the passenger side (not sure what it is called). Be careful of the output shaft housing. If the '06 is from a 4x4, should be the same. A trans from a 4x2 will have a different output shaft housing. The 4x4 housing is a must for the transfer case to bolt to. I am told that the 4x4 housing can be installed on a 4x2 trans and will work but I do not know if this is true. I advise you to install a new torque converter on the replacement trans as they are not too expensive ($100-$125) and torque converter clutches are subject to wear. Hope this helps.

PS: call a salvage yard in your area and ask them as they have interchangeability data files.

I'll second the TC replace advise. When your ****** swarmed it puked all manner of nasty schit into the TC that'll be flushed right back into good ******. Good idea even if replacement ****** comes with original TC.

What about a 07? I am a bit suspicious with this ****** in the new jeep I just bought. What years match for a 07 transmission?

Being electronically controlled, would the OP need to get a reflash to match his VIN to the new trans? Not sure if that applies here or not, I know it does on our Fusion though.
