The aluminum, chain driven transfer case is the Command Track, with the 2hi, 4hi, N, and 4lo, while the Selec track is the gear driven. with the 2hi, 4hi part time, 4hi full time, N and 4lo, right?

How hard is it to swap the Command Track, for Selec Track?

Would I need the drive shafts from the Command Track jeep?

Just askin', I may have the opportunity to get a Command Track Xfer case for free...

Both t-cases,command trac and select trac, are both chain driven t-cases.The select trac is actually about 15%-25% weaker then the command trac t-case.The select trac t-case suffers from shifting problems due to the shifter only moves check balls instead of a actual shift fork like the command trac does.

Ok, but what about the SWAP question, and what is the advantage or not?

The advantage is being able to drive on any surface with 4FT........I don't know if that's enough to do a swap, depending on where you live. To do the swap, you would need a center diff(For full time) and new shift lever, and instrumnent cluster (for the light.) I probaly left out a few things, but tjkj will correct me....

When I put mine in 4-hi, the part-time light comes on. The Full-Time spot is in the panel, you can see it, as is the top light bar indicator, and I don't have that either. I don't think you need another instrument cluster, you can see ALL the MIL positions, maybe just putting in the bulb, and any wiring of needed.

Ok, SO if not that, could I just use the T-case, for the stability of having the fork, rather than check-balls? If the T-cases are the SAME, as said above, then not using the center diff just keeps what I have, with a better t-case.

I am just laying it out there, nothing I would for sure do... If I can get the free t-case, why not use it...

You do not need a new cluster but you will need to have the BCM programed for the select trac or the light will not work. You need a select trac t-case from a KJ only or the shift patterns will be backwards and you will need a select trac shifter, can no remember if new driveshafts are needed. The 2 t-cases a very different so you can not swap the guts.

What about installing a 2Low kit in the Command Trac? Is that doable???

Teraflex 2 Low Kit
After labor cost, the KJ's t-case needs custom machining done to allow this kit,of installing you could have bought a RockTrac or about 75% of a AtlasII t-case.Oh and those teraflex kits you can not exceed 3000rpm's or they will blow the t-case.

I didn't count on a guts swap, just the T-case, and shifter... Where would I take it to program the BCM, Chrysler?

I do PC work for an auto shop (A few in fact), so the install will be FREE, if it is not a major overhaul. The Liberty comes with either 4x4 option, so it's just a matter of parts & Labor... If it is too extensive, then I won't bother, really... Just would be nice to have all the options, if the parts and labor are free...

Yes a dealership is the only place for reprogramming.Like I stated before only a select trac t-case from a KJ will work without major mods. The others will work, ones from a grand or XJ,but the shift linkage is vastly different.Just be careful there are 242 t-cases that in no way will work on a KJ also.

Yeah, the T-case would be from another Liberty, I know that, as I said, a least painful install, as it is all FREE, and don't want them to have to get too involved. Then again? I may just have a custom exhaust made, they do that too.

If the wife didn't put up such a fuss, I would put a snorkel intake on it too...
