ticking sound please help......

So all started after a couple hours on some mild trails and mud..... a couple of days later started getting a little tick / clicking sound at about 0 - 20 mph then it goes away over that also does not do it all of time cant seem to find where its coming from? Best I can describe the sound is like there is a piece of tape on the tire. While searching for the cause I discovered my front transfer case side drive shaft boot was gone so I replaced that hopeing it was my problem but no..... any help or ideas where to check would be great. Thanks

Next would be cv joints or bearings to check. Kinda hard to check but see if the boots are torn or have too much play in the axle.
