I have a 2011 jeep liberty 3.7
When driving, Now and then when I turn my steering wheel I get a metal scraping sound when I turn left or right when I am straightening the steering wheel back up. I have installed a new steering pump, steering rack and pinion and removed the wheel dust shields. Has anybody any ideas as to what could be causing sound.

Just my 2 cents. I was always taught, check the last thing touched first. You mentioned dust shields. So anything that was moved / replaced is the 1st thing to rule out.

Whatever it is it's making Isound it's like metal on metal and is spinning around . I did think about the torque converter but it only makes the sound when the steering wheel is returning back for a turn.
