The OEM Denso Alternators are very robust & last a Long time! 100,000 plus miles is possible.
Your mileage may vary of course.

The KJ Renegade Models use a Denso 160 Amp alternator because of the additional roof mounted lights.

Sport models etc without the roof lights, have a 136amp Denso Alternator.
Denso site today calls it a 140Amp, go figure. I guess the new ones have a 4 amp bonus now.
Here is a photo of the Denso 136 Amp Alt.

The 1A Auto video below shows how to remove/install a new ALt.
Except for the part where they remove the negative cable, leave it loose, & not tape it !!
I like to remove both + and - cables and use electrical tape to cover them properly.

If you are trying to save $.. find the correct Denso at a bone yard to swap in!

Otherwise Denso has re-manufactured ones readily available.
Would I buy one from Autozone..nope.

You also could have a local ALT shop re-build your current one.

This video has fantastic ++ information on how to rebuild a Denso Alternator- enjoy!

If anyone has a photo from their KJ -Renegade 160 Amp Denso, with a good pic, please post it below.

Always worth totally disconnecting the battery!

The large nut on the alternator goes to Battery +.

If your wrench on that large lug touches engine/chassis while battery is connected you will blow the "fusable link" inside that thick cable!:(
