I am looking for the tong weight rating of the trailer hitch they put on my Liberty for that fuel tank protection recall.

I use my Jeep to tow behind our Pickup truck with Slide-in camper loaded.
I carry a couple things inside the jeep but I am running out of room.
35 gallon water tank empty (empty).
22 gallon Sewer tank (empty),
2 bag chairs and small fold up table
beach fishing cart with big tires.
100 quart cooler (loaded) (Once I get to campground this gets locked in my Pickup truck back seat).

all this don't all fit inside even with seats down (and I would rather move the sewer carrier outside)

I am going to use a hitch cargo carrier. when traveling distance, the rack will probably only have the sewer tank on it (empty) But once at the national park campground, I will use the rack to shuttle fresh water between fill station and my RV (1/2 mile) as well as shuttling blue tank full of sewer to RV dump station. (same location)

Than when I drive to beach, strap fishing cart on back rack so support the poles :)

The 35 gallon tank might run 300lbs full of water. Is hitch rated for at least that much?

Thanks.

I think the recall hitch carries the same tongue rating as the normal one which is 750 I think. Make sure it mounts 3 bolts per side and there's grade 10.9 hardware.

I'd be more concerned about the hitch rack itself.

Wait... so you have the pickup towing the camper, and behind the camper the Jeep is being towed... and then you want to put a rack on the hitch of the Jeep... the whole assembly must be what, 80' long? lol. Jeep liberty hitch tongue weight

Tongue weight maximum should be, as a general rule, 10% but no more than 15% of trailer weight. Max trailer weight (including whatever is loaded onto or into the trailer) for the Liberty is 5,000lbs. That's a tongue weight of between 500 and 750lbs... I'd be more comfortable closer to the 500lb mark if I could control it.

Keep in mind your suspension on the Jeep as well.. old and worn out springs are going to compress a huge amount with 1000lbs of cargo inside the vehicle plus another 500lbs that far back on the trailer hitch (it'll have a lever effect where more weight can apply more downward force).

That being said, a 320lb container should be just fine. Not much different than 2 full sized adults standing on it, and I've had that on my own Jeep.

Agree with everything and suspension remarks, lots of dead weight on soft suspension
