I doubt the rear gate can be fixed, something about the internals being hard to mend. Does it rattle? If not, throw the spare on and forget about it.

As for the bumper, sand that area down, and have shop repaint it. Should be a fairly easy job if it's sound other wise.

Or, just get the pad thingy from an 02, where the black part cover that recess in bumper for the tire.

Just throwing out some options.

i was told when i got rearended that the reinforcement bars inside of the gate are too hard to get straight again so the gate must be replaced if you want it right..

Runs about a grand to replace the gate with OEM Mopar.

Go to a junk yard and find a KJ with front damage, and a good tail gate. Silver shouldn't be that hard to find.

TBJ is going to bounce on this one...:p :D

As long as it still works, closes good, gaps on each side are equal...I'd throw the spare on for now, till you can get a new one.

Go get some touch up paint, that will hold the rust off...

If you do consider a proper fix,
Before you touch it up (the swing gate that is) I am quite sure that the stiffener runs immediately behind that plate you show in you pics. There is little at the ding. I would seriously try getting what I could to pop back out - I am aware there is s slight degree of stretch in the dingles but it is surprising what you will pull out. You will certainly pull the lower one out to the original line and the top ine might just come to. For a few dollars it could be worth it.

This is in the harder basket: You can get to the rear and use a panel peaters hammer on the outside with the dolly on the inside - you would be able to hold it there - it is not a big hole - not gig enough for a hammer but big enough for the right dolly and use them in reverse. You will nee to paint inside anyway so you will have the liners out.

Then, as has been suggested, feather, scuff and paint inside and out.
Good luck hope this helps

I think the bedliner suggestion is good... Scuff, paint, put spare back on, forget about it!
