Hi
I am in the UK and have a 2006 Cherokee/Liberty ? My passenger power fold mirror has stopped folding in although the glass still adjusts OK.the motor can be heard Running ok , but nothing happens and the whole mirror feels loose on the door mounting as though the ratchet to hold it in place has come loose. My dealer wants £260 !!! to fix it, which i think is way to much for a complete new mirror.I also have the chrome cover on it which my dealer says cannot be replaced as jeep do not make them any more and it may be damaged when they put the new mirror on!!.
Is there any way i can sort this problem out myself ? which i think may only be a small gear cog out of place.
Does anyone know how to get into the mirror casing or door mounting point so i can have a look see at the mounting or motor.?help!.gifhelp!.gif
Many Thanks

Hi. I have recently had to replace my mirrors for the same problem. I dismanteled the drivers side mirror assembly to check the folding mechanism. There is a large cog assembly and a smaller one that is attached to a motor. The large one had some broken teeth, and so the mirror would stop moving once it got to the broken part of the cog. In the end I just went to my local dealers and bought a new one. Fortunately they gave me a good discount so it cost me £200 per mirror. Not great, but still it saved me £60 on the official price. I replaced the mirrors myself. Not a difficult job, but you do need to be careful when taking off the door card. I bought a special tool from Halfords that cost a tenner, but that was when I had to take the door card off to fix one of the speakers. Once the door card is off, there are 3 nuts holding the mirror assembly in place. Just undo those and disconnect the cable. The replacement parts are complete, and just attach the same way. The passenger side mirror I have does work still, although it didn't seem as smooth as the new drivers side on I bought, so I ended up buying both :/ I don't know about the chrome part as mine are the plane black ones.

Hi. Definitely don't try to get the cap off. I tried that first, but the mirror assembly is quite well sealed and has to be taken apart while off the car. Lots of fiddly screws and clips. I don't have the steps I'm afraid as I took it apart a few months back and can't really remember the details. I put it back together again, and I'm no engineer, so it's not too difficult, just fiddly. I took the mirror assembly off the car, then from the side where the cable comes out of the mirror I started to unlcip/unscrew bits. Give it a try and if you get stuck let me know and I will take a look at my spare I have to try and jog my memory.
