Just out of curiosity...I asked my mechanic about this right after I bought my KJ, but it seems to squeak for a few moments whenever I brake. It sounds to be coming from the passenger side rear tire. The brakes were brand new at the time, and I was told everything looked fine, and that it could just be the cold temperatures causing it to squeak. Apparently rust building on the wheels being scraped off can cause the issue? I was also told that some brakes just squeak even if there isn't anything wrong with them. I have noticed though that it's squeaked during the summer and then stopped, and now in the cold weather it seems to have returned again. Any thoughts and opinions?

It's possible the brake pads have become contaminated and need replacement. Does your Libby have disc or drum brakes on the rear axle? It shouldn't be too hard for a mechanic or yourself to pull the brakes apart and inspect the surface of the pads or the rotors/drums.

It's got disc brakes in the front, drum brakes in the rear. My mechanic had already looked at them and said they were fine even though they squeaked.

It could just be the type of pads he used. Weve got a Jeep with drums in the rear and we used semi metallic(I think) on the rear and they squeak every time I brake. Ceramics were used on the front and they are very quiet.

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Did they replace all the springs when they did the brakes? If not I bet that's your squeak, worn out springs as they should be changed when the shoes are replaced. The parts kit needed is like $12 from Napa.
