off-road mode and the MAF CEL

i got my CRD over 10 years ago from an elderly couple who towed it behind their giant RV. after reading the forums, i disconnected the MAF sensor near the air filter. I got better mileage and it just generally drove better. each year when i needed to get the jeep inspected, i would plug it back in and clear the code with my scan gauge. never had an issue with inspections. this year, i plugged it back in and cleared the code but the CEL comes right back on. any ideas what i'm missing? thanks

Maybe a different code?

Try disconnecting the battery and clamp the terminals together for half an hour to reset.
