I also posted this to another Jeep forum, so please excuse me if you saw this elsewhere. I'm new to the Liberty, but a pretty fair wrench, and it looks like I've got some work cut out. I picked up this '02 Sport 4x4 for cheap, knowing I was going to have at least a mini-project. It runs with a miss, and sounds like it has an exhaust leak at the engine. I didn't get much time with it so far, but here's what I found: There's coolant puddles at the #4 and #6 cylinder that I can see from the top of the intake, and those cylinders have coolant in the plug wells. While there I noticed a place where a hose should be (PCV system?) that doesn't have anything on it. Should I suspect a leaking lower intake gasket, or a head issue? Also, can someone point me towards a diagram of the hose routing? I've done some searching but haven't come up with much so far. Thanks, and I'm looking forward to getting this back on the road!

A compression test confirmed what I had hoped wasn't the case. I have zero compression on #6, and low compression on #2 and #3. The other 3 have right at 180psi. Looks like (at a minimum) the heads are coming off. Woohoo, I got more of a project than I had bargained for! At least I'll know the engine when I'm done.

Looks like anti-freeze is leaking. For one thing it looks like the prior owner used the wrong anti-freeze in it. The KJ uses HOAT anti-freeze which is pink and not green. They don't mix and can cause problems.

FWIW The only problem with the antifreeze color is they make 'safe for all makes and models' that is supposed to work with the specialty coolants that are red, pink, orange, green, yellow or whatever and it looks like plain old green antifreeze as well. Which I would assume, would make it impossible to tell if the wrong coolant was used until it gels up, gunks up, or similarly malfunctions. If anyone knows a good way to tell the difference please share!

For KJs, if it's not HOAT it's wrong. Those universal ones do not work.

So the green is wrong for sure! :)
