Hi All,

I am hoping to buy the 2008 Liberty this Friday, with 85,000 km on it. I have wanted a Liberty for a long time, and I am so pumped at the prospect of making that dream come true. What should I look for? It's got the 3.7L V6 with 4x4, as far as I can tell it's bone stock, which works best for me as I have plans for it in the spring. Apart from getting some nice a/t snow tires for it for this winter

service records. especially surrounding the transmission, transfer case, differentials.
most people will do their oil, but not the others.
and at that mileage (maple syrup units) it should have had all of those done at least once if not multiple times.

It is only 53,000 miles. Doubtful any of these were done- maybe. But a good idea to do them and have a fresh start.

It is a good bit different than mine- an 04. I was looking at an 07 and an 08 near me but did not go for it. Both were higher miles. Sounds like your buy is a better bet. Biggest problem in my area is rust. Of course since you are in km you are likely in Canada? If so, then you know the rust to watch for. Good luck with your buy! I am still looking for a replacement for mine.

that's why I'm saying they should have been done. Diffs have a only a 30k service interval according to the book. pretty sure that's the same on the t-case.
One thing I *can* tell you is, 130k MILES is too far. :D

Yes I wish I had a better history on mine. The Carfax did not show a lot. It came from another state originally. If a person can get one with those low miles, it gives them a fighting chance to maintain it well. Lucky find I think.

Hey, sorry for not being on here much. I finally have the available funds to buy liberty now, just to find one. I am planning on buying one at the end of March. I have found a few, and yes, I am in Canada. I found a CR diesel which I am thinking of messaging the owner to see how it is? Should I be wary of the diesels?

For some reason people seem to like the diesels. Ask on Facebook in the Liberty group. Diesel fuel is inconvenient here and so expensive. I have no desire for a diesel vehicle. But there are a lot on the Liberty group that have them. Good luck to you. I am on my second Liberty. Bought an 06 over the winter so the retired hubs will take the 04 soon enough. The 06 had Florida tires on it and with the 20 inches of snow that we had it got drenched inside, so the carpet is pulled right now as we dry it out. I know to clear snow off quickly because it fills the cowl and drains inside if you don't. But it was brutal cold and I did not get it cleared well before the thaw. It was like that thick ice you get in the freezer. Now I have a mess. But the floor pan looks great so I guess at least I got to inspect it.

Diesel is about $0.30 more expensive than gas, but it's a good deal. Mind you, the winter we had had a lot of snow, and having a jeep would mean I could visit family up north in the winter.

If buying a 2008-12, avoid any Jeep that has a sky slider fabric top, no matter how nice the rest of the vehicle is. These tops are very unreliable and may be unfixable when they break, as there are no spare parts available outside of a bone yard.

I looked on the way home from work yesterday at my local gas station. Diesel down there is $5.19 and supreme gas is $3.79. So there is a big difference here. But yes, definitely good to have in the snow. I have had good luck with mine as long as you have good tires too. Let us know how you make out. My other concern is parts availability as there are fewer diesels but maybe in Canada they sold a lot of them, hard to say. So far I have not had much trouble finding anything for mine, though some things I have had to order online.

tires make all the difference on any vehicle.
I've had FWD cars with "dedicated snows" (really, just heavily siped big tread block tires) that were unstoppable in anything.
And I can't tell you the number of SUVs and AWD vehicles I see in the ditch, because poor tire choice and poor driving habits. :D

There's been quite a few diesels on FB lately for cheap as well.
