I have an '03 Jeep Limited with 132,000 miles that I picked up a few months ago.

It has been running fine with no issues until three weeks ago when I hit the accelerator a little harder to pass. The engine lost power and the CEL flashed three times; when I let off the gas immediately the CEL stopped flashing and went off. I spoke with my mechanic and he says the intake gasket is a likely culprit and to keep an eye on it.

So for the past three weeks,I kept my foot off the gas for any hard acceleration and it has been running fine - no missing, no power loss. Unfortunately, today I hit the accelerator a little harder again, and this time I start losing power badly. The CEL is flashing and the engine is stumbling - losing power and when I press the accelerator at all. I get it pulled over ASAP (about 1 mile from an exit). I shut it down for a few minutes - then it starts right back up and is running fine again. However now the CEL is on and steady. I get the Jeep to work and turn the ignition switch on/off/on/off/on to get the codes and I am seeing P0300, P0301 and P0302 (multiple misfires, misfire cylinder 1 and misfire cylinder 2).

Is this actually an intake issue? Has anyone else seen this? I searched the forum for intake and the trouble codes but I am not seeing any other posts reflecting this same issue.

Could really use some help. Thank you in advance.

I would start but moving coils #1,2 and switch it with the other "good" ones.
If the misfiring follows then those coils need to be replaced.

Sorry, I'm not sure if it's an intake issue.

Thanks - will check. I neglected to add an important bit of info. The reason the mechanic felt it might be the intake gasket is because I am also getting the occasional whiff of coolant from the engine bay. No apparent leaks. He said when the gasket starts to go it is not uncommon for some coolant to leak out onto the engine - hence the smell once in a while.

Our intake manifold is plastic though. Wouldn't have thought of that...

Ive been wrong, but I doubt its the intake manifold gasket. Simply smelling antifreeze and having a misfire tells you nothing about the intake manifold gasket.

When was the last time it had a good tuneup? Seems like a good place to start.
