So...I know I posted about this months ago, but the dimmer switch on the KJ seems to have died. And now the foot lights are flickering too. (Why is everything with this KJ always electrical problems?!) Is it something I can just buy and replace, or does it involve a lot of wiring know-how? If I have to buy it, where can I find one (aka what is the product called?) and how much will it run me? I'm figuring once I find the source of the flickering foot lights, I may replace the bulbs with LEDs of some kind, since I've always kind of wanted to do an interior lighting revamp.

Yeah, it sounds like you need a new multifunction switch. But don't pay 100 bucks! It's very easy to change (you just need a torx screwdriver) and the part can be had relatively cheaply if you buy online. A few months ago they were under 50 bucks. Now they're up to 60 or so. Here's one link that has the 2002 switches for $57 or $62. You might find a better price if you shop around. Be sure to get the right switch: there are two types, one with fog light control and one without.

FOOT LIGHTS?

you have footwell lights?

Doesnt most kj's have them? Mine has them.

And yes, on the steering column there are two holes on the bottom of the plastic surround. You will need a torx bit driver to get those two screws out and most of the time they suck to get back in. Takes awhile to get them lined up.

Anyway, once you get that off you can take the multifunction switch off and the wiring just un clips. If you installed that head unit it shouldnt be an issue.

Go to that link that jeepskate posted. Put the year of the kj in and all that then go to Electrical, chassis electrical, switches, then multifunction.

Nope, no courtesy lamps here. I see the post on here about adding them, i need to get in there and see if the wiring is there and order up a couple lights to install them.
