So I put my new grille in the KJ, but I noticed it was lacking the "fins" if you will that came in the stock grille. I wondered what these were called so that I might be able to find them to buy, as the stock ones don't seem interested in coming out. I'm going to let the plastic warm up so it's not as brittle and then try, but if I can't get them out then I'm going to buy them. The picture below shows what I'm talking about.

Can't you take the black plastic fins off the stock grill and put them back into the new grille? That's what I did with my KJ when I swapped out the stock grille for the chrome one.

They should pop right out. At least they do on my 2007. I'd do what you already said and take the original grille inside to let it warm up.

That's what I thought, but they seem to be glued on. I see there's the remnants of tabs on it, but they look like they were broken at one point, hence why they're glued. I'm going to try to get them off if I can, but no guarantees.

Okay, so it turns out they weren't glued on. I started with the middle tabs and managed to pull them out--the inserts are rubbery and therefore somewhat flexible. Putting them on the new grille however, I had to break several large tabs off (still haven't figured out what they were for) because they were preventing the inserts from going on. I looked on the stock grille and it seems whoever had it broke the same tabs off and painted over the marks left by the breaks. Anyway, I have the inserts in now, and it looks quite nice, granted the picture below is rather dark and crappy quality xD

Obviously this is from the new grille held onto the old as a reference.
