Gentex 187 Autodim mirror - how will it work?

Dear friends, our KJ has auto dimming rear view mirror option since it is limited version. I removed that mirror and installed another one with homelink buttons from 1998 chrylser LHS. I adapted it by using only 12 volts and ground wires. It operates as the way i want to now. It turns off when i push a button etc. I am happy with it.

Problem is, original part from KJ, which has noly off and auto buttons (gentex 187), wont work as intended i guess. Surprising thing i do not remember how it behaves normally.

How should it behave? When road is dark, and when light shines from rear, will it dim automatically or will it dim all the times as long as green led is on iStrange thing is when i push off it wont turn of, led goes dark but mirror stays powered. it only turns of when i disconnect its power. I feel it went broken some time ago.

It should dim automatically (when light is behind you) when the green button is on. If you press off then the light will go out and it won't dim at all.

allright, it seems mine is somehow broken. may be a component is dead on pcb. I removed the mirror cover and found nothing wrong visually. may be that light sensing thing is shot.

it dims when power is on, and stays same either it is off or on auto mode.

it should look exactly like your rear view mirror.

i will keep this as a spare part in case i may need tthe glass only. ebay prices for same item is cheap. but shipping to my country is too much. i can buy android mirrors from china too. did you see them? they have gps mp3 player and a DVR function for front facing camera.
