Hey! I have a 2004 jeep liberty with a 3.7 v6 and the engines knocking so I’ve been looking for a new one. Got an offer on an 08 3.7. I’m wondering if it will interchange. It’s not much to swap the accessories over to the new motor if need be. I’m just hoping to see if that 08 would work in the 2004. Thanks

Starting in 07 the engine was controlled more by computer. It has an electronically controlled throttle body ("drive by wire") instead of a throttle cable attached to the gas pedal. My guess is that if it is compatible, you will need to transplant over some bits from your old engine to make it work.

Search car-part.com for engines for your 04. The years that pop up as options are the turnkey compatible years.

Yes try to find another turnkey 2004 if possible.
Try your local wreckers for a known good lower mile engine if possible.
Other options include a local engine re-builder.
