Under the hood on your KJ can you look and see if this connector should have a nut on top?
Located under the hood on drivers side, near the firewall.

I don't believe there is supposed to be a nut there. It's the way that style fastener is designed. The breather tube for the front axle is the same way.

PIA clip. The clip slides on to the threads, and locks in place that way.

I know them all too well, and they annoy the flip out of me at work. :)
