Driver door locks when pulling handle

Just today I replaced the drivers window regulator on my 2006 Jeep Liberty and put everything back together properly. I was making sure everything worked when I went to open the door on the outside. When pulling the handle from the outside the door lock slowly locks itself. How may I fix this problem?

first you need to know why, is the handle mechanism pulling on the lock, or is it locking electrically?
