got 3 out of 4 02 sensors removed and installed the new ones. so far not to bad. PB blaster is the stuff!

on removing the o2 sensor on bank1 sensor 1 (upstream drivers side), whats the best way to get a wrench or deep socket on the sensor and actually be able to move? im thinking taking the front drive shaft out as its in the way of the only way i see getting this out. if so, how do i remover the drive shaft? its not like the old 4 bolt u-joint kind im used to. do i just remove the several bolts around the face and pull straight out? its not going to be 1000 pieces come flying out if i do?

this is an 02 lib 4x4

I actually made a tool for tight fitting O2 sensors. I used a large Craftsman 7/8 wrench, cut it in half, smoothed the rough edges off the cut, and cut a small section out of the 12 point box end of the wrench. This allows you to slip the wrench over the O2 sensor wiring, and being that it is a 12 point box end, it is thin and has many teeth, which both allow you to get into tight spots. If I remember, I can post a pic tomorrow of the one I made. I use it quite a bit, and it works great. I can get into places where I can't fit an O2 sensor socket and ratchet.

For $15 i got an extra wrench i can chop up if i ever need to, and still have $10 for something else! But thanks for posting the pic never seen an o2 tool like that in the stores around here. It would still require the use of a ratchet though and if there isn't much room to work with that wouldn't be as easy as a straight wrench.

The the O2 wrench shown above and a 3/8" breaker bar you can get into many tight places,it's the only tool I use for O2 sensor removal and the KJ's O2 sensors are cake to get to compared to some others so $15 tool has paid for itself about a 1000 times over in my line of work considering my 7/8" wrench cost me over $25(gotta pay more for that lifetime warranty),heck even a Craftman 7/8" wrench is about $15.

can't swear to it,looks like take 6 small bolts out shaft will come off of flange, believe I would also mark flange/driveshaft to get back in correct position.

idaho08kk, i cut my wrench like you described and i got the sensor out with no problem at all. wish i would have asked this question sooner as it would have saved me a ton of time with the cut wrench. i didnt need to remove the drive shaft either. only problem i had was getting the dang connector unplugged on the harness. my son could barely get his little hands in there and unhook it. other wise ild still be under the jeep. wish jeep would have made the connectors hang out more. heres my wrench, and thanks for the help everyone!!

Glad it worked for you. I have had great luck with mine. I work at a CDJ dealership working on cars for a living, so I got to test that wrench out on a lot of different setups.
Funny thing is that I have never seen a tool like this offered from any tool maker. It sure makes my job easier. Sounds like it made yours easier too. Maybe I'm on to something.:D:D

Hmm.. I better go buy a box of wrenches and modify them and then mark them up 100% and sell them on eBay as an o2 sensor wrench!!! LOL
