Hi everyone, it's been awhile since I have posted. My wife has taken over our Liberty and needles to say she drives like a lose nut behind the wheel. Our Liberty is quicker than most since I run the bosh 4 hole injectors. I have a freshly rebuilt transmission. Now, I am getting a noise that I've narrowed down to the transfer case. It's a very rhythmic sound produced under 25 mph coasting or decelerating. If you have ever heard a ceiling fan bearing go bad it is similar to that. I lifted the Jeep and I can sort of feel what seems to be a rough spot from the output shaft and I can hear the chain inside the transfer case slap when rotating the shaft back and forth. At the flange I am getting about 1/2 inch movement in each direction. My question is this, is that amount of chain slop normal? Should I just replace the T-case? Or should I disassemble it and replace the output bearing? When I say she drives it hard I can hear the pretty aggressive all terrain tires breaking lose when I am on the phone with her. She feels that she has to keep up with all the modern cars and then beat them off the line too. :)
