I accidentally posted on the KK forum first. Got a reply that might be helpful to some so I won't delete it there but I'm reposting here. Sorry about that everyone. :
Hi everyone. So my stock radio started doing something semi-weird. It started only playing music from the driver rear speaker. At lower volumes it seems to come out of all speakers but once you turn up the volume high enough, it reverts back to only the driver rear speaker. The panning knobs seem to work in that if any other speaker is isolated, it will only play music until the volume knob is turned up. If the volume knob is turned up a lot, you can always hear a tiny tiny bit coming from the other speakers but not much. I do have an aux cable installed but I disconnected it and the problem remains. I wiggled the cables in the main harness to see if there was some kind of connection problem and the problem remained (though of course it could still be a connection problem somewhere down the line)
NOW! In trying to fix an unrelated window regulator problem (what the hell jeep!?) I got access to one of the speakers (front passenger) and disconnected it to see what would happen. Interestingly, when disconnected, the front passenger tweeter speaker plays music consistently even when the volume knob is turned up as if everything were working fine. The other front tweeter sometimes works too this way. Though not always it seems. Can't seem to get the other rear speaker to work.
What could this be?? Is the actual radio in need of replacing or is it some kind of wiring problem that developed? Is it a grounding issue?? (I was thinking something along these lines because of the change in the problem when the front passenger speaker is disconnected.) I took out and put back in the radio fuse just to see (I'm obviously just taking shots in the dark here) and nothing changed. What do people think?
Thanks so much!
