    Farewell

Well, guys, it's time for me to bid everyone a fond farewell. After 10 years and three months of being a proud KJ owner, I traded in my Jeep last night with just over 163,400 miles on the odometer. I need reliable, economical transportation to/from work, and the KJ just wasn't fitting the bill...

    High mileage club

2003 3.7L Sport at 160,000 miles. This week I replaced the radiator, hoses, and thermostat. In June I replaced the right rear LCA; last year I replaced the rear UCA. I have replaced the rear CV joint on the front drive shaft, replaced the rear shocks, and changed the blower-motor resistor and...

Replace BOTH rear upper control arms?

Okay, now I'm looking for suggestions on persuading the ball joint out of the bracket. PB Blaster and my little sledge aren't doing it. I also tried jacking the frame up high, raising the rear diff, and then lowering the diff quickly to use its weight to break the stem free. No dice. Oh, and...

Replace BOTH rear upper control arms?

Thanks guys. This morning, after a good night's sleep, I tried another angle and managed to get the bolt pounded out. But I'm still trying to free the ball joint from the bracket (the PB Blaster is soaking at the moment) as it is frozen solid.

Replace BOTH rear upper control arms?

I have run into a bit of a jam and could use some advice. I got the corner bolts out without any problem, but the bolt at the ball joint has been a pain in my @$$. Here's how I have things set up: I have the Jeep up on jack stands under the frame. I also jacked up the rear axle, and have a...

Replace BOTH rear upper control arms?

Many thanks, Bob. I was just out there crawling around under my Libby trying to get the lay of the land. I gave each of the bolts a shot of PB Blaster and will let them soak for a while before I get started. I'm hoping that the project goes relatively quickly. I was planning to take some...

    Proclip

Looks like the ProClip might be a little more vehicle-specific than the Pro.Fit.

Replace BOTH rear upper control arms?

My new Mopar UCA was delivered yesterday (found it online for $312-not bad!), and I will be installing it this weekend. My only question is whether I should put Loctite or anti-seize on the bolts when installing the new one. Suggestions?

    Proclip

Sorry I'm a little late with this response, but I have been using the ProClip in my 03 KJ for years and I LOVE IT. My iPhone goes in there 100% of the time that I am driving. It's just so convenient and accessible. (BTW, I placed mine between the center stack and the gauge cluster. I could...

Replace BOTH rear upper control arms?

Quick question re Mopar v. aftermarket. I've seen at least one thread with a discussion about how a lifted suspension puts added stress on the bushings, and that's why the aftermarket UCAs wear out more quickly the Mopar models. My Jeep is a daily driver with a stock suspension (no lift)...

Replace BOTH rear upper control arms?

The crooks at my local Jeep dealership want $490 plus tax for the UCA, and the best prices I'm seeing online (for the Mopar part) are in the $320 range. Does anyone know of a better deal than that? Should I assume that the model sold at JeepinbyAl.com ($156.99) is an aftermarket brand, even...

Replace BOTH rear upper control arms?

Thank you to the people on this forum who take the time to give real advice in an honest and respectful way. It means a lot to those of us who don't already know everything.

Replace BOTH rear upper control arms?

Thanks, Tom. I don't suppose you've seen a HOT TO on this project?

Replace BOTH rear upper control arms?

I just had my 03 at the mechanic for a full suspension inspection. It turns out the terrific squealing I've been getting with every little movement is a rotted out upper control arm in the back right. It needs to be replaced (he quoted me $450). The left side seems solid, but I'm at 144K miles...

How many miles do the engines go for? 03 kj

I'm at 136,000 on my 03 Sport and the engine is still purring. I need to replace my serpentine belt and tensioner, but as stated previously, those are normal wear items. I'm planning to move to a Grand Cherokee some time next year, and I don't have any concerns about my KJ making it that long.

    Auto Door Locks Auto Disable

I have a self-installed EVIC on my 2003 KJ. Everything works fine with it (including temp display, etc), except the automatic door lock function constantly disables itself. Here's the scenario: If I start the Jeep and use the EVIC to set the automatic door locks to ON, the doors lock as...

    KJ: 1, Buick LeSabre: 0

Update: The current repair estimate for my Jeep is $4978, and the completion date is July 12. At this point, it's all body work, except for one thing: the air conditioning compressor is being replaced. Thankfully, my insurer is paying to repair it, and hasn't even mentioned totaling it...

Too funny! I'm tempted to send these pics to Jeep corporate. They could use these types of comparisons in their marketing materials. Fixed! :icon_redface:
