My 05 Liberty with 145K on transmission does the same thing occasionally. When shifting from Park or Reverse into drive, you may be able to mitigate the problem you describe by using this sequence: [Park or Reverse] -> [Neutral] -> wait 15 seconds -> [Drive].

Why do you need to replace it? The filter is a fine mesh bag inside the fuel tank. I believe the fuel filter is intended to last as long as the fuel pump. It is not intended to be replaced periodically like a canister type of fuel filter.

General Motors has issued tech bulletin in the past advising GM dealerships to not use transmission flush. I know this is a Jeep forum, but if an auto manufacturer is recommending against trans flush, then I am definitely NOT going to do it on my vehicle.

I agree with 69Bahama - use air pressure as the diagnostic aid. But you will need good hearing and a quiet environment to hear the air leak. You can also use a soap water solution and a small brush to check the various fittings and joints along the lines. Bubbles will form if there is a leak.
