No one is arguing you shouldn't use bump stops. I'm arguing you don't need extended length bump stops with this particular setup. If I installed 2" of hockey pucks per the recommendation of this thread, I'd have <1.5" of travel before they're engaged
So the assumption is you'll take a "lifted" truck off-road but not a stock one? Otherwise, wouldn't stock be more prone to damage?
I put "lifted" in quotes because, for this kit at least, it doesn't seem like the shocks/springs are much different in length (see my post above). The lift occurs...
Man, that’s a great deal. I recently installed the exact same kit on my 03 liberty and left everything else stock. I called Ironman to confirm I don’t need extended bump stops and they said “if it’s not included in the kit you don’t need it.” So far, they were right.
I assume you‘re mentioning backspacing/offset due to the potential for tire stuffing, but that shouldn’t be an issue since I run the stock aluminum wheels with 235/70 tires. Do you think upgrading to 245/70 would change the calculus here?
Of the jeeps you own, I’m most interested in your...
Hmm, according to this KYB shock's specs, the KJ's stock ****** length is 7.88". While I can't find the exact ****** length for the Ironman 12712GR, I assume it's probably similar. Ironman's documentation states "bump stops must intervene by at least half their thickness before the shock...
I never bought springs before, and mine arrived from Ironman4x4 slightly damaged. Should I push for replacements, or will they be getting damaged soon enough anyways?
Thanks!
I have 105k miles on my ’03 KJ and I’m replacing my suspension with Ironman springs/shocks. Should I reuse the existing strut mounts or buy new? If the latter, which brand(s) do you recommend? It looks like I can get Gabriel mounts for $20/ea, Moog for $75/ea, and Mopar for $107/ea. Thanks!
Hey ozone000, thanks for posting your experience. I can only imagine your frustration when the results were suboptimal. I'm now in the position you were in 5 years ago. If you could do it all over, what would you purchase? Prior to this thread, I was leaning towards Moog springs/Bilstein 4600s...
