I may be a bit confused here. I am not sure the front pinion bearing is gone. There is more than one bearing in there from the yolk to the pinion right? Could it be the first one, on the yolk, that is bad? Is it pressed on?

Yes, after doing some research it looks like it will be much easier to just replace the entire carrier. I have a new rack n' pinion that needs to go in as well. Might as well knock them both out at the same time. Cheers,

A common thing that can also cause this is gunk built up in the throttle body. It is easy to take apart and clean. If the fuel filter has never been changed, I would knock that out as well. Cheap at Autozone.

Differentials are recommended at 36k. Tranny Transfer Case are at 60K. I do mine every 30 - 40K. I would not wait until 100K to change the transmission and TC fluids.
