    Sounds like you have a project ahead of you. Are you going to take apart the other head and rebuild it too? From the looks of all the sludge, I would want to take a look at the other side if it was mine. It's probably similar to the one that just failed.

    Have you though about replacing the head with a remanufactured one? You can get them for about $300 on Ebay. That way a lot of the work is already done for you.

    I've got an Optima Red Top and love it. If your battery is that age, I would go ahead and replace it. The factory batteries don't tend to give you much warning that they are going bad. You just end up in your driveway, at a parking lot, or gas pump like my last one, and it won't start.

    Locking rear Diff.

    If you're looking for a limited slip, I would definitely recommend the DTT. I had the factory LSD replaced with a DTT when it broke and damaged my pinion bearing. If I had known how much better the DTT was, I would have upgraded to it back when I went to 4.10s.

    Premium Gas Woke Up My KJ!

    Octane rating of fuel is the detonation resistance. It allows you to run a higher compression or more advanced timing. A stock 3.7 does not need high octane gas. Some modified 3.7's do, such as mine, but it has a custom aggressive flash from B&G with the timing advanced.

    Debadge it. It's easy and free. Just wait for a really warm day. I debadged mine. I used plastic trim tool for stereos, a little goo gone, washed and detail misted it. It looks like they were never there.

    My factory trashlock broke this fall and damaged the pinion bearing. I had the rear end completely rebuilt with a Detroit True Trac. If your KJ isn't a trail rig, I would highly recommend it. It works much better than the factory LSD. You have to be more careful in 2WD in slick conditions...
