starting at 2:52 (in case it doesn't translate on the link correctly) is exactly why some shops turn away complex work. never mind a problem like @lfhoward 's probably isn't going to be solved all in-house... there's probably a machine shop involved for the head. various possibly not frequent...- sota

Please make sure whatever shop you chose will invest a little time into DEFINITIVELY determining the problem, rather than just going through the expense of pulling the head, only to find out it's trashed and took the piston/block with it.- sota

I get it though. a shop needs to make money. you're always trying to maximize profits. if the numbers say, don't take on the Big Jobs if you want to make the best profit, then you don't take them on. plus to make the numbers work, you have to charge more. now you get pissed off people when you...- sota

more than I've detailed here. far far more. I did a complete engine rebuild, top to bottom, almost 2 decades ago now. just because I wanted to do it. (ok it was a good donor core motor that needed work, but still. :D ) air conditioning transplant from an A/C equipped car to a non-A/C one...- sota

you'd be surprised. a lot of shops are turning down the complicated jobs, because they don't bring in the $/hour of the simple stuff. why tie up a lift for days, while you wait for parts or customer approval (when you find something else wrong), when you can bang out a dozen or 2 brake jobs, oil...- sota

as an example... remember that the 06 65th I bought from a guy for cheap, he was told the engine broke a push rod. .... these are OHC engines. what it DID have, was a kicked exhaust rocker, which I put back into place. get some more hard facts, preferrably pictures, of what's wrong before...- sota

Window switch/regulator issue
replacement parts these days are absolute junk in a lot of cases. sadly a lot of cars will "die" simply because you can't get a decent replacement for a part that renders it inoperable. and your supplier is an ass. you need a new one.- sota

got the tow mirrors in. as expected, they don't fit at all. I can see exactly what needs done, so I contacted Thorn Engineering (dude who makes adapters for various other jeeps to mount these tow mirrors on) to see if he's interested in making the adapters. Asking here... IF he's interested...- sota

I've thought about going that route, but the aesthetics of them scream "I have no ******* idea what i'm doing". 8.5x20 trailer behind this thing going down the road is already going to look... weird. :D mind you it'll be empty. picture of a bud's CRD towing his 26' camper.- sota
