2006 Liberty AC issue
That's is exactly what you would exect to happen. The low pressure cut out switch won't allow the clutch to engage when the suction pressure is low. (the swtich opens somewhere around 30 psi)- dougmac

It has a leak and all of the refrigerant is gone. I suspect that is the problem. The compressor is probably fine. Fix the leak and have someone properly evacuate and recharge it.... you should be good to go.- dougmac

A/C repair quote
If the compressor had a catastrophic failure, the compressor, orifice tube, condenser and accumulator need to be replaced. The evaporator and lines will also need to be flushed. Then it will need to be evacuated and recharged. The quote does sound a bit high. If the bearing just went out...- dougmac

With the A/C off the pressure should be around 85 psi @ 70 degrees F. If it has no pressure, there is no refrigerant in the system. You need to address that first. engine knock can't locate
When I suspect a rod knock, I take the oil filter off and cut it apart. I then inspect the media for bearing material. I use tin snips to cut the housing so I don't introduce metal into the filter when I open it up. It never fails me.... bad bearings make metal flakes every time....- dougmac

I just put in the factory harness for a 7-Way trailer connector yesterday. The kit comes with everything that you need. 3.7 tear down
I have a couple of questions.... Is it noisy? How did you discover the metal in the oil? Be sure that you check it for sludge deposits. I just rebuilt mine after a failed rod bearing due to hardened sludge blocking the oil pickup tube and starving it of oil. If you see signs of sludge build up...- dougmac

Sludge Death.....
That is definitely the big question.... how neglected was it? One thing I did notice, it has 170,000 miles on the odometer. There was a quick-lube sticker on the windshield that said next change is due at 152,000.... could it have had at least 21,000 miles on the oil? Looking at the inside...- dougmac

It runs!! Assembly complete, off of the engine stand and ready to install. All bolted up and ready to put the rest of the stuff on so I can fire it up. Fire in the hole!! It ran perfect.... except for a bit of an oil leak.... doh, left the oil pressure sensor loose. :emotions34...- dougmac

Thanks Bob! My shop is my favorite place to hang out. :) I read here about the reluctor ring change from the different model years. Both engines were 2004's and I double checked to be sure they were the same. Thanks for mentioning it anyway... I'll bet its a pretty sad day when you have to...- dougmac

Some parts I like to see matched as they came out of the factory. For example the crank and all of the rods. With the precision machining of today's parts I am not even sure of that even makes much sense. Different from your preference, I don't see any value in maintaining the original parts...- dougmac
