    Cleaning the Throttle Body

    Heater blend door

Tried that once before , I read today that this only worked on KJ's built after November of 02 thru 04 models .

    Heater blend door

2002 Liberty , I have very little heat & have read about blend door problems . I removed the glove box & using a hole saw made a hole in a flat spot on the heater case . I can see the blend door through this hole . From full cold to full hot the blend door only moves maybe 1/2 inch , same from...

    Broken crank keyway?

Never saw one of those keys that was welded to the crankshaft , there is a slot in the crankshaft that the key sits in . Hard to tell from your picture but if the slot in that crank gear is damaged I'd replace the gear .

    Timing chain slip?

I have reassembled 2 - 3.7's in the last year & I haven't needed any special tool to install the damper pulley . On both engines the pulley slid in far enough to start the bolt .

    Slave cylinder failure?

RockAuto pictures one that looks like the bottom one & they have a slave & master already together & pre bled . http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/jeep,2005,liberty,3.7l+v6,1430900,transmission-manual,clutch+master+and+slave+

    Coolant leak

Is the puddle of coolant underneath the front corner of the radiator ? The electric fan shroud appears to have had coolant leaking down over it . The top corner of the radiator near where the new hose is fastened is a very common place for these radiators to develop a leak in the radiator itself .

    starting problem

Installed new heads & timed engine today . With V6 at 12 on drivers side cam gear neither valve for # 1 cylinder is open . This is with the heads installed on the block . Exhaust lobe is a little past roller on rocker & intake lobe isn't quite to the roller on the rocker .

    starting problem

Something I didn't take into account when I posted last night , When I checked the head last night it was laying flat on the workbench & I set the V6 on the cam at 12 . When the head is on the engine it is sitting at an angle which would change the position of the cam when the V6 is at 12 . Just...

    starting problem

Front left is # 1 , yes drivers side , will be on your right if facing engine from in front of vehicle . Sprocket wouldn't have had to turn 180 . All your marks would still line up if cam just turned a little bit in the sprocket or a lot . It would be the cam that would be off , not the piston ...

    starting problem

Didn't forget to plug the camshaft sensor connector back up did you ? Just guessing at what the problem could possibly be . There are some decent U Tube videos on the 3.7's , might see something you possibly missed .

    Computer Question

I bought one off ebay . They programmed it & sent it to me . Don't remember exactly what I paid for it but I'm pretty sure it was less than $150.00 . Just went & looked , bought it from Flagship 1 inc. $144.39

    starting problem

When I installed a crank kit in my 02 I had all marks oriented like you say yours are . I didn't pay any attention to which valves were or were not open & it runs fine . I do remember one of the cams was depressing valves because it had to be held with the V6 in the 12 position . I have my 05...

Liberty KJ 3.7l P0442 causing misfire?

Should be a decal on the radiator top support bar that tell you the correct spark plug type & gap .

    starting problem

If all sensors were properly reconnected it still sounds like a timing problem . Dot on crankshaft gear at 6 , dot on idler gear at 12 & V6's on both cam sprokets at 12 .

Head Gasket? Oil Burn and Milky Oil Cap

If valve guide seals are bad you'll usually get blue smoke out the tailpipe at first startup then slacking off or going away . 2 valves per cylinder or 12 total on a 3.7 V6 . I'd do dry & wet compression checks .

    Sudden Extreme Shuddering

The yokes remain in the transfer case & front differential so you wouldn't have a problem with anything entering or leaking . We are talking about the front driveshaft , not an axle .

    Blend Door ?

Can I make a hole in the heater box in the glove box area & visually see the blend door operating ?

    Patience is a virtue but...

I wouldn't be afraid to start it that way .

    Sudden Extreme Shuddering

If I'm not mistaken you can remove the front shaft & still drive the jeep leaving the lever in 2WD . That torn boot on the front shaft may have caused that joint to go bad causing your problem . Worth a try to see if your shuddering goes away with the front shaft removed .
